Weekend Roundup

We were lucky enough to have another beautiful weekend. It’s cold overnight and in the sixties in the days.

Friday, Biker Witch and I had lunch and did a bit of shopping. It was such a great day! And Wizard went to see his brother and also had a good time.

Saturday, we took advantage of the lovely weather and went to the garden shop to spend our house payment on flowers for the front planter. Then we came home and planted them. We brought Maggie out to hang with us and she was a good girl. When a salesman came by, she held her sit-stay and just watched.  That’s exactly what I want. Then Maggie spotted her brand new boyfriend, a French bulldog named Boston. He and his mom live across the street and this was our first formal meeting. OMG Boston is a sweetie! They were really cute and Boston is so friendly! They left to go for a walk. Just when Maggie thought her day couldn’t get any better and she’d plopped onto her belly to watch us, the next door neighbor she already knows came over to chat. Maggie ran right up to her for some pets and love. She’s so ridiculous with her happy wiggles. Despite managing Maggie’s busy social life, we actually got all the flowers planted. We just need a couple more to fill in, but it’s 90% done. It helps since the rest of the front is just some bark spread on the ground. The flowers add some color and warmth.

Sunday, Wizard and I decided to go back to the garden store to buy four plants. Two big ones to start the back planter, and two little flowers to finish the front. We were basically going to spend to spend a few dollars. I think our first mistake was getting a rolling cart instead of a basket. We ended up filling the cart for the back planter and spent roughly another house payment again, LOL! Okay I’m exaggerating. Sadly, we did not come home with the two flowers for the front and probably only an fraction of what we need for the back. But one step (and dollar!) at a time. Besides, this is the fun part.

I also ran to Trader Joes just because I like to go there. Then I made some sugar free granola that tastes like crunchy cardboard. Once it’s completely cooled, it might taste better than I think, but ultimately, I don’t mind it plain and will eat it. This recipe gives me a base to begin tweaking over time. I eat sugar, I just don’t want it in foods I eat for breakfast.

So that was my weekend, how was yours?

Yay for beautiful weather and time with Biker Witch! Yay for plant shopping and Maggie making friends! LOL about your second trip and buying more plants than you planned. Bummer about not getting the last plants you need for your front. I’m glad you’re having fun with the plants. (And totally jealous.) I’m not sure I could eat sugar-free granola, let alone make it. How do you get it to stick together without something sweet and sticky? I use sweetened condensed milk and my sister uses honey.

It was a lovely weekend here, too. Saturday we went for a walk. Sunday we worked in the yard. I have been such a toad since I started working that I am definitely feeling all the exercise and it wasn’t even that much. The yardwork on Sunday was me cleaning leaves out of the garden beds so our plants can get sun. (What few plants are left in them.) Out of 5 peonies, only two are coming back. I think my last mum died, too. On the bright side, the rose I thought was dead has been reborn about four inches from its carcass. One live root, I guess. I’m naming it Lazarus.

To everyone, my website was down part of Monday. I don’t know how long it lasted as life got busy late Monday and I couldn’t check again until late Tuesday morning. I’m so sorry!

B.E., The granola I made just plain sucks. I didn’t want to use the small amount of fake sweetener they had in the recipe and I thought I could get around it, but I failed :-) If I made it again, I’d swap the fake sweetener for maple syrup and add two egg whites to bind it and get it crunchier. I am not anti fake sweetener, but I can only eat certain kinds in small quantities for my annoying stomach. But I did get it to stick together so that part worked using almond butter and a chia seed egg.

I’m happy to hear you had nice weather for the weekend and got outside! But I’m sorry some of your plants didn’t survive winter. Hopefully Lazarus brings a smile to your sadface!

Hope you’re having a great week!
