Friday Five
TGIF! Okay lets dive right into sharing five random things about our week.
- I am off jury duty as of last night! I got lucky this time and didn’t have to go in. Wizard sulked because he not only had to go in, but got the judge that held them there for two days.
- Youngest is having car issues, which is not unusual. But the state of California has turned what should be an inconvenient headache into a blazing migraine with no cure. It’s utter craziness. So this morning I am picking him up from another mechanic (his third or fourth) as they try to solve this problem. FYI — the car drives and performs fine. This is a state bureaucratic issued and the dealership just shrugged their shoulders and said, “We don’t know.” I’m seriously pissed for him. Not that he needs me to be pissed, LOL. But he’ll solve it and move on because that’s what adults do.
- I bought some pillows and a candle for my outdoor space (because I had a gift card!), and now I’m out there all the time. Wizard and I love that patio. This weekend, we’re hoping to get the ceiling fan installed. I mentioned to Youngest that Wizard and I could probably do it now that he has the bracket up. Guys, I was so proud of him — he was very tactful when he insisted he would do it. I know he didn’t want us trying to maneuver the fan up the ladder and because I can appreciate his concern, I told him we would wait for him. The kids seldom worry about us doing anything, so if they do have a concern, we make a point to listen.
- So I think I accidently created a Sourdough Monster in Wizard He’s worrying that we will run out and wants to know when I’m starting on the next set of loaves. I find that hilarious. In the beginning, he was afraid of the starter, and my first efforts weren’t turning out the way we hoped. But now he’s a sourdough fiend!
- Turbo is coming over this weekend. That’s awesome. But Turbo’s dad (Oldest) loves sourdough so I told him we’d bring out the loaf in the freezer while he’s here. Wizard tried to talk me into buying sourdough from the store and giving oldest that, and save the homemade stuff for him. I just rolled my eyes and told him I’m serving the homemade sourdough to Oldest and Special K. Wizard will find a way to cope, LOL. We are both looking forward to seeing Oldest, Special K and Turbo! Sometime today I have to go buy some snacks for Turbo since I don’t think I’ll have time to bake. I already bought him a toy when I was in Target this week. I had zero intention of doing that when I ran into Target so I’m not sure how that happened, but I do have a theory: Grandma’s have a magnetic field that draws toys into their carts and we don’t notice it until we’re checking out. By then, it’s too late and so we keep buying toys. That’s my story! (Wizard rolled his eyes at that one!).
So that’s my five, now I’d really love to hear yours! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

Yay for release from jury duty. And sorry, but there’s no freakin’ way I’d live in your state due to all that bureaucratic BS. Just sayin’… Sorry for Youngest’s headache. I hope he finds the “aspirin” soon, especially since he’s the BEST! Good luck with the fan and yay for the awesome outdoor space. Sourdough is yummy. My new fave at Starbuck’s is the sourdough grilled cheese sammich! Yay for Turbo (and family) Time™ and I totally buy your toy story. Okay, my five:
1. Rain. We’ve had some! (About 6″ in the past few weeks.) We need it but it can go away for the weekend because D1 softball regionals at OSU and OU! All televised. Yay!
2. I was a good citizen. The poor dude who reads the water meters couldn’t find ours or the one across the street. When I realized why he was wandering around the yards, I went out to assist and pointed him to both. I need to get a flag or something to he can find it again. LOL
3. I inherited my mother’s wedding rings but have never worn them. She had tiny hands and the rings are platinum which is expensive and hard to resize bigger. With the recent weight loss, I got a wild hair the other night and decided to try them on. They FIT! A little tight over the 2nd knuckle but I could get them on and off. Considering their appraisal price, will NOT be wearing them for everyday. Special occasions? Maybe. Anyway, it was fun if a bit weird. Long story about how Dad bought the set for her.
4. I intended to take yesterday off from writing and do yard work, but…rain! So I piddled on the computer. Youtube “shorts” are a rabbit hole, just sayin’. Then I saw a writing prompt for a flash fiction challenge and voila! The transition scene that had blocked my efforts in the stupid WIP got written in about 30 minutes. Go figure! Hopefully, more words today.
5. Poor Pete. He’s finally figuring out that the dogs just don’t care. He came nose-to-nose with Jake the other day. Jake sniffed, looked at me and walked away. Pete sat there a minute and then he gave me the same “disgusted” look that had been on Jake’s face. With all the rain, he’s been staying inside during the day more often. Yesterday, he was up on Loki’s “shelf” (top of the cat tree in my office window) watching the “Loki-vision” show of mourning doves at the bird feeder. He forgot about the glass and pounced. I didn’t laugh. It was hard. I do wish I’d had my phone ready for a picture though. The look on his face….🤣🤣🤣
Have a great weekend all! I’ll be doing the whole armchair fan thing with softball and baseball!

1. I like jury duty but I’m glad you’re off because you are rather busy.
2. I have some choice feelings about CA’s insane policies but I will keep my mouth closed. I have my fingers crossed that you guys can work through the mess.
3. Sounds like a little piece of heaven on your patio. It’s just so sweet how our boys have grown into such caring people. Like you, mine are always there to help out.
4. Ha Ha on Wizard the sourdough monster!
5. Again, ha ha on Wizard. He’s too much! I hope you all have a wonderful time together. And yup, grandmas have the right to buy toys! Have fun.
1a. Middle took me to the zoo yesterday. It was wonderful. The sun was out the temperature was in the 60’s and the animals were happy.
2a. Me going to the zoo made for a bad time with hubs. Me leaving causes him anxiety and panic.
3a. Tomorrow were all going to dinner for all the celebrations – Mother’s Day, C’s birthday , Hub’s birthday, and A&A’s 5th anniversary. We’re prepared if something happens and we have to leave. Hoping hubs can handle it. Being with all family should help.
4a. Our TV has a bright spot on the picture. Guess I’ll be researching buying a new one.
5a. Haven’t been able to do much reading lately. Sure hope I can get some done this weekend.
Have a great weekend!

Silver, yeah, I know. Unfortunately, some of the stuff reported about CA on the news is grossly exaggerated (shocking, right?), while other stuff is dead on accurate. But this is very frustrating, and one of the cracks of bureaucracy. Sort of like dealing with the VA
1) It seems like you’ve had a lot of rain lately. Hope the rain is considerate and leaves for the weekend!
2) LOL I’d do the same thing. Ours are pretty easy to find though.
3) Wow you must have loved seeing your mom’s rings on your hand. It’s also cool that you’ve lost that weight if it’s what you want!
4) Yay for that writing prompt! I love when we find those breakthroughs! Writing the scene in thirty minutes after having been blocked had to feel especially sweet!
5) I’d probably have laughed! Maggie has done things like fallen off her chair trying to track someone she adores out the front window and I crack up at her! She gives me that same disgusted look, LOL!
I hope you have a great weekend being an armchair sports fan!

Viki, I’m really glad to have gotten off easy with jury duty this time! The last few times I’ve been called in. It’s hit and miss, but I’m glad the system here is pretty easy overall. We all have to go in if our “group” is call, and we find out by checking in each night after 5:30. It’s pretty simple and as organized as a big system like that can be, I guess.
1) Oh my gosh, the zoo sounds so nice! And you got to spend the day with Middle too!
2) I’m sorry about hubs It must be hard for him, and for you.
3) That’s a lot of celebrations and smart to do it all at once! I’m crossing my fingers that hubs will be able to enjoy being with family (familiarity usually helps) and not get anxious. I really hope you are able to relax and enjoy it too!
4) Huh, that’s must be very distracting when you’re trying to watch TV. I’m not much help in researching TVs, but I hope you find a good one at a great price.
5) It sounds like getting time to yourself to do much of anything is harder these days. I sure hope you can get some quality reading time in! (And not fall asleep )
Enjoy your celebration dinner and weekend!
