Friday Five
TGIF and Happy June! Can you believe we’re nearly half way through 2023? Okay, time to share five random things about our week. (I always blank on the entire week right about now, LOL).
- It’s been gloomy and overcast here for days. In an unusual twist, it’s getting to Wizard more than me, although I’m tired of it too. But when the heat comes, we’ll probably miss these days
- I joined two new FB groups: One on women walking which is kind of cool. It’s for mature women who log their walks, show pics and share tips. I love the age bracket and the positivity so far. But I haven’t posted (I’m like to observe first to get a feel for groups). I also joined a gluten free one, but that one may not be for me. Just trying different things I might find a gardening club for clueless amateurs — but first I have to learn to spell amateur. I couldn’t even get close enough for spell check to guess what word I was trying to write!
- I downloaded a walking app that I’m just trying out and like so far. To my surprise, Wizard is trying it too. Walking is not something he’s ever really enjoyed, but who knows? I think it’s cool he’s willing to try on his own time and terms. What I also like is I believe I can add him to mine so he can check where I am for safety reasons.
- On Thursday, I got my hair done — my bangs are growing out! I’ve had bangs for decades so this is a fun change for me. Then I worked on making another batch of sourdough bread that will eventually become two loaves. That process is getting a lot easier for me now. And we have a gift card to a restaurant, so we plan to go out to dinner, which we’re looking forward too.Β I’m writing this blog before dinner, because I’ll need to shape the dough into the bannetons (baskets) for long fermentation in the fridge and forget to write the blog
- This weekend, we might go see Turbo and his family, depending on their schedule. Otherwise, we’ll just see what happens! I’ll leave you with this pic with our son and daughter-in-law from last weekend at the Kramer Arch (I’m the shortest one, second from the right):
That’s my five and now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a terrific weekend!

Friday? And I need five things? *flail* You will miss the gloom when it gets hot. Yay for apps, walking, groups, and sharing with Wiz. Double yay for sourdough. And triple yay for maybe TurboTimeβ’ and definite family arch pics. Okay. Five things. From this week. π€π€π€*thinkthinkthinks*
1. It’s Women’s College world Series time! Yay and…nay. OU won a squeaker. OSU lost and is now in the losers bracket.
2. We’ve had sporadic rain this week but we’re still desperate. Sadly, the weather affected the WCWS games yesterday. OSU was supposed to start at 6. They started at 7:30 and then another rain delay at the bottom of the 3rd. It was 10 p.m. before they could play again. And they lost. Supposed to rain again overnight. β
3. We have Oriental Cockroaches. They are bold buggers and dang hard to exterminate. LG is on a mission and I might try a “home remedy” by mixing sugar and baking soda. They eat it for the sugar and then the baking soda makes them blow up from the inside. I’m game. π£π₯
4. I’m relistening to Darynda Jones’s Sunshine Vicram trilogy and desperately wishing that she’d write more in this world. Sunshine is sheriff in a quirky tourist town in the the New Mexico mountains. She is snarky, dedicated, loyal, has a traumatic past she can’t remember (but slowly does through-out the books) and is totally in love with the the former high school bad boy. I’m about to finish the 2nd book and then I’ll start the 3rd and be sad because the end is near. I highly recommand these books if you like mystery, suspense, quirky characters, snark, humor, romance, and maybe a tiny touch of magic. There are muffins involved there. Just sayin’… π§π€£
5. Pete and the “snake.” As Boone got more frail, we covered all bare floors with a variety of rugs and foam pads. The pads are “put-together” squares so you can pick size and shape and have “finishing” edges that are straight on one side and “keyholed” on the other to fit into the interlocking edges. The one between the kitchen and the master has one edge that pops up. Pete found it last night while I was doing dishes. He worked for 15 minutes to get it loose and then rolled around the bedroom batting, throwing, chasing, and clawing the “snake.” I laughed. He didn’t care. Loki sat there looking confused and would stare up at me, his expression totally perplexed. Yeah, Loki is often more dog than cat. LOLOL I did remind Loki that Pete is an orange cat and they are rumored to share only one brain cell. π π
First Saturday tomorrow so siren test, Mexican lunch with the Kids and then softball. Yippee-ki-yay. Have a great weekend all! π₯°

Silver, this whole week has been off for me due to the holiday on Monday. Oddly enough, today actually feels like Friday
1) Yay for OU and sorry about OSU
2) The rain must be helping at least a tiny bit, but I fully understand how long it takes to recover from drought. Game delays always suck!
3) That type of cockroach is new to me! Um, remind me not to get on LGs bad side! I’m not a fan of any bugs or uninvited critters in the house, so I’m not going to shed tears for the cockroaches.
4) I know I listened to at least one of those, I’ll go see if I finished them or not. I remember liking it!
5) Pete is hilarious!! I wish I could see him in action! One day I hope you can get a video of his antics!
Enjoy your weekend and most especially the lunch at your fave place with the kids!

1. That stinks about your weather and the fact that it’s bugging Wizard. It’s been hot and sunny here but the humidity has been low.
2. That’s great exploring facebook groups. A gardening group may be fun as long as it is on the small and easy side.
3. I find it cute that recently Wizard had been getting in to doing the things you’re interested. I hope the walking app works out for both of you.
4. Another funny – we’re on the same hair schedule. I got mine done today. I hope you like the shorter bangs. Did you make it to dinner and was it delicious?
5. Nice photo! I hope you get to see Turbo this weekend.
1a. As stated above, I had my hair done today. It looks good. I’m so happy she finally figured out as close to my natural color as possible.
2. C and I are headed to NY tomorrow morning. A&A are already there. My mom’s memorial is in the afternoon. I’m leaving hubs at home with other C’s phone number in case he needs help. The trip and the service will be too much for him.
3. Speaking of hubs. He had me make a colonoscopy app for him. He then went and picked up the paperwork telling him what he needed to do. Trauma ensued. It’s just too much for him, which I thought right from the start. I cancelled the appointment first thing this morning. How does anyone handle things like this with people going through GD? I have no idea.
4. Because I won’t be home to make dinner tomorrow I went out and bought hubs favorite salmon for dinner tonight.
5. While in NY, C and I are going to go to the little village I grew up outside of, Youngstown NY. It’s at the mouth of the Niagara River and Lake Ontario. I figure I’ll probably never go back, so I want to cement memories of this beautiful tiny village in my head.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Viki, that is funny that we’re on the same hair schedule!
1) You struck gold on getting that close to your natural hair color. I keep debating stripping my hair closer to my gray and adding lowlights, but I’m not ready for that step yet.
2) Hope the service goes well and hubs does okay at home. I know it’s not easy for you to leave him but this is important too. Hugs on the whole ordeal of losing your mom.
3) I’m not sure what GD stands for, but you’re the one dealing with this first hand on the daily, so I’d trust your judgement.
4) Hubs should appreciate that! You’re a good wife and partner!
5) Enjoy the moment of revisiting the village!
It sounds like it’ll be an emotional weekend for you, but I hope it’s filled with good memories and seeing loved ones.

Sorry Jenn. Itβs CD. I hit the wrong key. Cognitive decline.
Have a great weekend.

Viki, got it! That’s what I had thought until I saw GD. We are dealing with someone with CD as well so big hugs. It’s very hard and we are not the first line caregivers.
