Friday Five

TGIF!! Friday is so reliable and shows up every 7th day like clockwork. I appreciate that! Okay time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine!

  1. Top of my mind as I write this is that the five people on that Titanic submersible are presumed dead. So tragic. Confession time: I tried not to read this stuff and get invested because submarines in general trigger my fear of being trapped, plus the fact that wasn’t a fully functional submarine but a submersible dependent on a launch ship, and finally, I didn’t think this would have a better outcome. But I got sucked in, and I really feel for all the families and loved ones of the victims. Just to be clear, despite my own fears, I respect those who are more adventurous than me, and I’m deeply sorry this tragedy happened.
  2. I have not baked anything since Sunday. I’m mildly proud of that for some reason, LOL. I was on one heck of a baking spree last week.
  3. Yesterday I met Biker Witch for coffee, a little browsing and then we finished up the day at Trader Joes. I so enjoyed just seeing her and hanging together. Plus the coffee at the little pastry and sandwich shop we went to was amazing! It’s been awhile since I had such good coffee. The people who worked there (and I think owned it) were so nice and very friendly too. I love that. Then we found another lovely woman in a small arts and crafts shop — she’s a retired accountant now working for fun in her son and daughter-in-law’s business. I found her refreshingly happy and living the life she chose with joy.
  4. Oh, I just looked at my walking app and discovered I’ve walked 30 miles this month (that I tracked, I only track dedicated walks, not anything else). That shocked me. Of course, the math makes sense, but I just hadn’t thought about it. By the way, Maggie is fine now, I’m just making sure I keep her walks a bit slower and no more than a mile through at least today. Then we’ll edge up a bit more if she’s ready. She is an aging girl and it’s getting hotter so I’m keeping a close eye on her.
  5. Wizard and I planted the rest of the hill along the side of the house. I’m amazed at how much Wizard is doing now that his back is healed. He laid the rest of the drip line and dug all the holes for the plants! Now we have a couple bare spots here and there left to fill in with some plants but that’s easy to do. It’s been a bit of work and a lot of pleasure to work on this back yard. I hope we continue to love it over the years as we do now. Even Maggie really enjoys being out there! That said, in the summer we will miss our old pool, and that’s okay. We can always invite ourself to Youngest’s house to use his pool!

That’s my five now I’d really love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a fabulous and healthy weekend!

    1. I was also trying not to watch/read too much on the submersible. I wanted to be hopeful but wasn’t and thought I was putting out negative vibes. There have been too many of those around me lately so I begged off. Like you, I admire the spirit of exploration and adventurism and would never say anything negative about those men.
    2. Peel me off the floor. YOU didn’t bake. That is very unusual but you did bake up a storm last week.
    3. Sounds like you and Biker Witch had a really great time. Always wonderful to have exceptional coffee. The woman you met sounds very interesting. You two were put in the right place yesterday 😊.
    4. 30 miles – WOW! Excellent. Very nice to hear that Maggie is back up to form. It is best to keep it short with the super hot weather starting to come in. It’s hard to exercise in that even when you’re young.
    5. I bet the hill looks wonderful. It’s sweet that Maggie is happy with it too. Yup, enjoy BLB’s pool πŸ˜€.

1a. I had a really great massage yesterday but when I got home I moved my shoulder wrong and the pain flared up. Today – not so bad.
2a. My brother had the fluid drained from his knee yesterday and they are sending it out for analysis just to make sure they know what they are dealing with. He’s still in pain from that but hopefully it will ease by Sunday. All the dr.’s are lined up but the first appointment isn’t until July 11th.
3a. C is going to have dinner with us tomorrow. His C is busy with other stuff and won’t be coming. We’ll miss her but it will be nice to sit down with our kid.
4a. I went to Trader Joe’s Wednesday. I bought the stuff I needed and then hit the card rack. I love their cards.
5a. Our grill broke. Well , actually, two really cute baby raccoons were playing in it the other night. Spunk and I chased them off but not before they destroyed the burners. We’re now deciding whether to buy another one or not.

I hope you have a fantastic weekend!

You can always “install” a kiddy pool… *ducks and runs* Yay for Maggie feeling better and 30+ miles of walking. Go you! Yay for planting, Wiz feeling better, and Biker Witch TIMEβ„’, along with meeting neat people. And yeah, that was a sad deal. I’m with you. No subs or submissables for me. I watched too many war movies growing up! Okay my 5.

    1. I’m late because Only called with a 9-1-1 panic over standing water in her living room early this morning. She HAD to get into her office and Baseball Boy is still teaching summer school and no subs. LG and i headed north, bought a shop vac on the way (ours died so we needed one anyway) and plastic tarps to lay wet stuff on out in the yard, since it rained yesterday. Long story short, it was the feeder line from hot water heater. Plumber will be there eventually. Some stuff got ruined. Some stuff I’m trying to restore. Only just wants a dumpster to “throw all this $h!+ away!” (Said during a crying meltdown.)

    2. In the midst of that crisis, severe weather blew up up so we had to hustle stuff back inside. Luckily, most of the important paper stuff was dry or almost dry, along with backpacks. LG and I got home around 2. I foresee naps.

    3. Pete likes cream cheese. I had a toasted blueberry bagel and cream because no breakfast, coffee, and high heat index until storm hit. I was hungry! I was clearing out email when I looked over and the orange criminal had licked off about 1/3 of the cheese on the bagel. I just let him have it and will feed the bagel to the crows.

    4. We needed the rain and the severe stuff settled before it got here. There’s still a little rumbling from the storm dragons and some rain–good sleeping weather.

    5. Jake didn’t get to go today because…Dozer. They sort of get along but we’d have to be wathcing constantly just in case and we didn’t have time. I forgot to put up the cat food (in the past, he’s “stolen” the cat food kibble bowl, eaten the kibble and hidden the bowl.) In a hurry this morning, I didn’t Jake proof. We got home and he hadn’t touched EITHER of the cat bowls (Pete gets fed inside now due to bugs. We don’t want any more out in the garage!!!) Jake got lots of love and double salmon stick treats for being such a good boy!

I’m sure other stuff happened this week but I can’t remember at the monent so you got a summary of today. And now it’s nap time! πŸ˜΄πŸ’€πŸ›ŒπŸΌπŸ’€πŸ˜΄

Viki, I don’t blame you for avoiding the news on the sub, you have enough difficult reality these days.

    1) That’s so frustrating! I hope your shoulder feels better tomorrow.
    2) I hope that pain eases up soon with your brother’s knees. It’s probably so irritated it will take a few days (as you mentioned). Frustrating how long appointments that we need take now. I just hope your brother can get everything taken care of and get back to active & healthy.
    3) Isn’t it nice that you can enjoy C either way, either alone or with his lady? Hope you you have a good time hanging with you son. Those moment do get more rare.
    4) Huh I haven’t noticed a card rack at my TJs, I’ll look for that next time I’m in there! I always find things I “need” to buy at TJs :-)
    5) Oh that’s rascally racoons! The babies had to be awfully cute, but I’m so sorry about your BBQ! If you’re anything like us, you rely on it. We cook meat more there than in the house (of course our weather makes it more feasible year round). Maybe you can find a good sale on a new one?

I really hope you have a good dinner with C and your shoulder feels better.

Silver, LOL on the kiddie pool! And yeah, subs freak me out.

    1) Yikes that’s a bad day for Only and BB! I’m so sorry but yay for you and LG coming to the rescue! Water leaks of any kind are always a major pain usually followed by pretty significant expense. I don’t blame Only for her crying jag. You and LG are such a huge help to them! Hope you aren’t too worn out.
    2) Oh jeeze! What a day!
    3) ROTFL!!! Pete still has his ninja skills even if he’s mostly house cat now :-) Hope he enjoyed his cream cheese and you found something else to eat. You guys really had a killer day.
    4) That’s looking on the bright side to call it good sleeping weather!
    5) Jake is such a good boy! But he’s also too clever for hiding the cat bowls after he eats their kibble (in the past of course, because now he’s such a good boy!) I fully get having two dogs who are mostly good together but need supervision. And dogs can do a lot of damage to each other in a short time if they get cranky — none of you needed that today on top of everything else.

I hope the kids can salvage most things and the repair isn’t too bad. It really was a tough day for all of you. Get some rest and I hope the weekend is better than today!

The plumber arrived and sleeved the pipe so they got water back. The burst was near the same place it burst in 2018 so Uncle Fix-It told them they’d need to repipe the house sooner than later. They rolled back the carpet as much as they could and took out as much padding as possible, tossing it. Carpet will dry much faster now and they’ll eventually toss the carpet and go tile/laminate, which is something they’ve been wanting to do almost since moving in many years ago. They shut down about 9:30 last night, tried but able to function in the house. Luckily, the soccer game today is the late game so they’re probably sleeping in a little. I hope so!

    Enjoy the weekend! <3

Silver, thanks for the update! Bummer about the pipes but it does happen. On the upside, it’ll be great if they get the floors they want out of this.

Hope Stormy had a great game!
