Weekend Roundup

TGIF! Time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. So far, more than 90% of all our plants are surviving! I think we’ve had two or three that died. I’m pretty happy about that! And we’ve had a lot more sunshine which makes the plants happy. Sadly, we elected not to get a lemon tree because Wizard is worried it’ll get too big and we don’t want that. I think I need to put my tomato and bell pepper off until next spring. We’ve gotten so much done, I’m fine with it. I happy just to have my little herb planter. We really enjoy the backyard.
  2. I had a couple days of not feeling my best, and made myself do less. YouTube shorts are a great way to distract myself and keep from starting projects that will end up making me more sore.
  3. On Thursday when I got up, I felt so much better, which means it’s nothing big flaring up, so yay!  As I had my coffee and planned my day, I swore I wouldn’t overdo it. And then I overdid it by 2 p.m. and kept going until the evening, LOLOL! I’m nothing if not predictable! But then again, why not? Life is too short to always worry about how I’ll feel the next day.
  4. Oldest, Special K and Turbo went to the Caribbean last week and just got back. My son has called twice to tell me all the fun things they did and the tasty food they ate. I’m not jealous :-(  But truthfully, I am really happy they had such a good time because they both work so hard. The did have two glitches; a  travel delay for a day in Florida, and Special K had a little encounter with fire coral which she does NOT recommend. But otherwise they had a great trip!
  5. Tomorrow evening we are going to see Turbo and family to hear more about the trip and just hang out for dinner. I’m taking cupcakes because that’s what Turbo wanted — chocolate of course. Sunday Wizard is racing and I may or may not do something. Fourth of July is next Tuesday — time sure keeps flying!

So that’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours!

Yay for plants! Boo for not feeling your best. LOL about overdoing it. I never do that. :insert sarcasm: Yay for the kids taking a trip, although I would not want to encounter anything called fire coral. Yay for family time and Turbo time!

    1) I don’t have much time because I have to be to work at 8 today. Work is… well, work.
    2) The fawns are out, running around the yard being cute.
    3) The kittens are growing like weeds. Sawyer is going to be a big cat – at 6 months he’s already adult cat sized. He’s my tornado. Finn is normal size and my cuddle bug.
    4) Kitten wisdom: Sometimes a big piece of paper is all you need to be happy.
    5) Counting down to my trip to Michigan. Not too long now.

Polish that green thumb you got going! I totally wouldn’t know a thing about overdoing it. YAY for trips, BOO for ouchies, YAY for family time and Tubo-cakes! Okay, my five.

    1. Pete, Master and Commander of Weird Dreams, gave me one last night where a kitten got caught in a knit cap and I saw it climbing up the wall. I managed to capture it, get it untangled, and realized it had this weird, mushed-in face. At some point, the kitten escaped and turned into a tiny monkey. Don’t ask. I have no clue. I only know that when I woke myself up with a verbal “WTF!?!” Pete was tucked in close to my head.

    2. Cheez-It Puffs are pure evil. Just sayin’…

    3. It’s ugly hot but there’s a “not-as-hot” front coming in tonight. In other places, the meteorologists would call it a cold front.

    4. We are officially off Grandparent Duty™. Today is the last day of summer school and Stormy went with his dad. We may keep him at odd times in the coming weeks as Baseball Boy deals with his dad, who is still in ICU, though improving. We’re all hopeful.

    5. Tomorrow is First Saturday. Normally, that would mean siren test and lunch at Alvarado’s. Except Alvarado’s is now closed. Also, there may not be a siren test due to July 4th activities involving the city and the Ham radio club. Only and I made the executive decision to use Earl’s BBQ as a back-up plan in case there is a test. We like their food too but it’s not “home” like Alvarado’s was.

Time to sort through the rest of the email and blogs and then get on with my day. I’m hoping inspiration and energy strike and I actually make some progress on the dumb WIP! Have a great weekend all. Stay safe!

    1. That’s wonderful your plants are doing well.
    2. Oh no. I’m sorry you have had a few bad days. Thank goodness for the shorts keeping you distracted.
    3. Overdoing it is hard to control. Once you get going it’s easy to just keep it up. Getting things done makes you feel good. So I guess it’s kind of a trade off.
    4. Wow! That’s a fantastic trip Turbo and parents went on. I bet they had a blast! I don’t know what fire coral is and I don’t think I want to meet it.
    5. Good grandma making chocolate cupcakes for Turbo. I can just picture him telling you and grandpa all about his adventures. Have a wonderful time.

1a. C found us someone to take care of repairing/replacing the stucco. I have to get a checkout to them tomorrow for 1/3 the quote. Hopefully all will go well.
2a. Tomorrow morning C is coming over with the tractor and mowing and then he and I are going to buy a new TV.
3a. I’m trying to plan for The 4th but I keep getting distracted. So far I’ve bought burger buns. That’s it😉.
4a. I think hubs and I are going to go out tomorrow to a local family owned BBQ place for dinner. They specialize in everything bourbon. Hubs loves the salmon.
5a. The smoke from Canada seems to have finally receded to a breathable limit. It’s still hazy but not like it has been the past few days. I feel so bad for anyone living near a fire.

I hope you have a great weekend and really have fun with Turbo!

B.E., great to see you! I think about you but realize how much you’re juggling these days. I think most women are familiar with the whole over-doing it thing :-)

    1) Hope you had a good day at work.
    2) I’ve seen deer in real life but not fawns, I can only imagine how adorable they are!
    3) Wow Sawyer sounds like an over achiever in the size department! Sounds like he’s going to be your fierce dude and Finn the sweetie.
    4) I can’t argue with the cats on paper since Maggie loves when I give her cardboard to play with (supervised, of course). Sometimes, I think Maggie is part cat, LOL.
    5) Yay! Hope the trip gets here soon and you have a great time!

    Have a good weekend!

Silver, I wouldn’t call it a green thumb, but at least it’s not a serial plant killer…at least not yet!

    1) Pete has some awesome dream powers! And that is a weird dream!
    2) Hmm I’ll take your world of it on Cheeze-It puffs :-) But my crack are the Trader Joe non dairy chocolate chips.
    3) I just hope the not-as-hot front doesn’t bring more unstable air that can create tornados! It’s hot here too and only getting hotter. But it’s that time of year so I can’t complain.
    4) You guys totally rocked Grandparent Duty! Wishing the best for BB’s dad.
    5) I hope if you go to Earls BBQ, it’s amazing! I also hope life is settling for Only and family after the flood.

I hope you get that huge burst of writing energy and have an amazing weekend.

Viki, I didn’t know what fire coral was either, but now I’ve learned — it’s a coral in the ocean that has tiny tentacle like arms to capture their food. Special K brushed up against it in the water. She seems fine, but it hurts for a few days.

    1) That’s good news that C found someone for you. Writing the check is not fun though.
    2) C is so much help to you! He’s a good guy!
    3) LOL on plans for the fourth. I’m still trying to coordinate plans, so I get it! I can’t buy until I know if it’s just us or more people.
    4) The BBQ place sure sounds good! I hope you both enjoy it!
    5) I’m glad to hear the smoke it better in your area. Canada is really struggling with the fires there. I feel for them, and everyone in the path of the smoke.

I hope you have a great weekend! It sounds like it will be a busy one!
