Weekend Roundup

Well there was a weekend. My bright point was seeing Turbo and going to brunch with his family. Turbo has had a week or two of virus roulette and they took him into the doctor’s on Saturday because the cough is hanging on. Um, any parents out there know this story? Yep, the doctor said he’s fine and send him to school on Monday because coughs linger. I hate that cough that lingers for like seven years, but Turbo has missed a week of school so the doctor is probably right.

But we had a really nice time! Turbo educated me on Monster Trucks and Superheroes — I learned a lot, LOL! Next Saturday we get to babysit him for a few hours at our house so his parents can go — and I’m quoting what my son told Turbo — play in a big mud pool :-) I through that was an interesting description, but it seemed to satisfy Turbo. If anyone is wondering, the “mud pool” is located in a spa that is fairly well known in our area :-)

Otherwise it was a weekend that came and went like most do.

Oh, and Wizard thinks like he likes the white chocolate macadamia not cookies the best. But he said he’s going to have to eat more of both cookies to be sure. My own opinion is that the white chocolate macadamia nut cookies are technically a better recipe BUT NOTHING BEATS DARK CHOCOLATE. That’s just my opinion, but it’s the right one :-)

I spent more than my fair share of time trying to wade through freeways on Sunday and had a good idea for a book. Now can I remember that idea???? LOLOL! I think I might if I think hard enough, but I’m too wiped out by the heat, freeways and a nose bleed (probably from the heat) to think about it as I’m writing this blog. Maybe later I’ll break out my notebook and free write to see if I my mind will spit it up. I’m not actively writing, but it’d be nice to get some ideas together just for fun.

So how was your weekend?

As you said, it was a weekend comprised of a Saturday and a Sunday. Sorry for Turbo’s cough but at least he can be in school which might actually make him happier, well sooner, and help build up his immunity system. Mud pools can be fun! I’m surprised Turbo doesn’t want to go to. ;) I love white chocolae (which isn’t actually chocolate BTW) AND dark chocolate. Oh, who am I kidding. Through some milk chocolate in there too!

Saturday was Baseball Boy’s dad’s memorial. His oldest brother flew in from the Pacific NW and it was a surprise. Only his daughter knew he was coming at the last minute. It was a good thing. Middle brother has cleaned up his act and he was there and that was a good thing too. Only, control-freak OCD that she is finally saw the humor in some of the tech difficulties, relaxed , and realized that her FiL was up in heaven laughing and poking at her for taking it all so seriously. Almost everyone shared a memory and it was a happy time with few tears. After, the extended family a few very close friends met at his favorite pizza place to eat and share more stories. The drive up and down the the turnpike made for a long day but it was all good. Jake was a perfect angel and the minister fell in love with him.

Sunday, I decided to hit Wallyworld. A not-as-hot posing as a cold front had come through and Jake has a date with the “manicurist” this morning. They only trimmed his nails a little at his last checkup to make sure they didn’t nick a quick. It’s been 4 weeks so he’s going back to get them trimmed to where they should actually be. Best $19 ever!

After Wallyworld, I did some random chores and mnaged to edit about 1/3 of a chapter. I just couldn’t get my head into it. Today. After the vet’s. I’ll get back to work. In between loads of laundry. Gotta strike while the KWHs are cheap. LOLOL

    Have a great week, all!

Poor Turbo. Going back to school always does them in. Harrison ended up with RSV and strep four days into the school year. I’m glad Turbo’s Dr. is smart enough to say that coughs linger and to go to school. That’s what we would have done when we had little ones.

It’s amazing how much knowledge our grandchildren have. They really can school us on many subjects. It’s good that you are up to speed now on superheroes and monster trucks.

    The mud bath sounds divine!

I’m with you and dark chocolate – nothing can compare :-P .

Sorry about your Sunday freeway mess. How did free writing work out? I’d never heard that term but I like it.

My weekend was what has become the same old same old. A new Aldi opened in our little town and I went. Nice and clean!

I made stew yesterday for dinner and it hit the spot. I think I’m going to make some bar cookies Wednesday. The high is only supposed to be 68F a great day for baking.

I hope you have a fantastic afternoon!

Silver, Turbo does love mud, and is definitely an expert in making mud, but he’s been to a spa situation on a family vacation and knows they have rules that do not fit his fun-in-the-mud criteria :-) At least that’s my guess.

Very true that white chocolate is not actual chocolate. I didn’t bring that up because it can freak people out who love it, LOL. I like semi-sweet too, but in the last few years, I’ve veered to dark probably because it’s easier on my stomach with less or no dairy in it. I think all of us should enjoy what we love even if I like to tease about dark chocolate being the best!

I’m so glad the memorial was filled with memories! Sorry about the sound snafus, but it sounds like everyone took it in stride. My favorite part of those events is the meal afterward where people are even more relaxed and sharing memories.

Jake collects fans where ever he goes! I assume you release him from command at some point to let him socialize. (Or you may have him trained differently that what I’m typically used to with service dogs). I’d be first in line to pet him if I was there!

It sure sounds like you found the right vet and staff for Jake!

Hope you were able to get some work done today. It’s been a hard few weeks for you but maybe this week will finally settle down.

Viki, I know those coughs suck, and parents almost can’t win either way. If they keep the kid home, the kid is missing out. If they send them back with a cough, other’s think the kid is contagious.

Sorry Harrison got RSV and strep! He must have felt terrible, poor guy. But sounds like he’s better now. I don’t miss the sick kid part of parenting.

Right? Dark chocolate is so good. But it can be an acquired taste not everyone appreciates.

Oh free writing — it’s pretty much sitting down and spilling out what’s in our brain. Or if tailoring it to something like a plot — it’s making lists of ideas without judgement. It’s a good way to dig up a forgotten ideas as well as brainstorm new ones. However today, I’ve been doing boring housework since I got up so I haven’t tried yet.

Glad you liked Aldi! I like them, but i don’t do my weekly shopping there because I’m too lazy to change my ways, LOL.

Glad your stew was good, bar cookies are always a nice treat and I’m jealous of your cooler weather!
