Friday Five

TGIF!! Let’s jump into sharing five random things about our week. It’d be helpful if I could remember things that happened this week :-)  Oh well, here’s mine:

  1. Yesterday, I made the batter for the white chocolate macadamia nut cookies. I’ll bake them today (I refrigerate overnight). I also baked sourdough and generally found ways to make myself tired because I see to have two switches: Lazy or Nonstop, LOL.
  2. The chocolate chip cookies I made are good, but yesterday my stomach sent out some surrender messages. Wizard tentatively said, “You think it’s the cookies?” I sad-faced him so hard. Of course its the cookies, but can’t I be in denial just a bit longer? Does he need to say it out loud? This is a easy fix, if I want cookies, I just make some that I can eat and I’m good. I’ll make some cookies I can eat and be fine. I’m just glad that I can eat special things now and again and it doesn’t usually bother me. The white chocolate ones don’t really tempt me as much.
  3. I got my hair done yesterday and my hairdresser said she’s leaving. Dang it, this is like the third one in a few years. But I’m happy for her as she’s moving to another part of the country where she can do more of her hobby of barrel riding.
  4. This is the time of year when I (and probably most others) get really tired of the heat. And totally not connected to the heat, but I’m dropping it in here anyway: I need to teach myself how to manage and update my website and deal with my blog, but I don’t want to. I just don’t. Once years and years ago, I was able to do some of it, but then I got busy, happily hired professionals and forgot everything I knew. I’m whining, resisting and procrastinating with every fiber of my being! It’s not even that I’m not even that I’m not capable of learning it, I just don’t want to.
  5. The plan this weekend is that on Saturday Wizard and Youngest will go to his brothers while I get some things done here. And Sunday, Wizard will go racing and I plan to go out to see Oldest, Special K and Turbo. I haven’t done that in so long, and sometimes I really love going by myself. Wizard loves going by himself once in a while too :-). I’m looking forward to a nice low-key day.

That’s my five and now I’d love to hear yours! I hope all of you have a great weekend!

White chocolate macadamia nut cookies tempt me! But sorry your tummy said, “Nope!” I haven’t had a hair dresser since mine moved to Florida five years ago so I feel your pain! Good for her but hope she has a recommendation for a replacement. I know just enough coding to mostly stay out of trouble and I use WordPress which is pretty easy. Good luck on learning if you decide to do it! Yay for Turbo Time™ and also with Oldest and Special K. Laid back weekends are good! Okay, my five:

    1. I’m worried that Shylock Cat has passed on. He hasn’t shown up to eat for two days now and earlier in the week, his breathing was really raspy. I’ve been feeding him for 10 years now so no telling how old he is. Repeat (Pete’s doppleganger) has been on the porch the last two days and while it won’t get close, he doesn’t run away like he used to. Ah, the cycle of life when you’re a feral cat lady.

    2. Progress on the edits. Still slow but still progress. More rewriting because I left a few notes about fixing something, moved on, and forgot to come bac k to fix it. 🤦🏼‍♀️

    3. Still under the heat dome here. We’ve had like 9 days at or above 100. Not-as-hot and cold fronts forecast for this weekend. Any reprieve would be good!

    4. Had a follow-up with my opthomologist surgeon this week. Last appointment eye pressure was 11 and 12. This time it was 10 and 11. Optimum is 9. He’s very happy with me though the vision in my left is still pretty much hosed as there’s no treatment or cure for optic nerve damage. I go back again in January for a full check up–vision field, mapping, etc. The gal who does part of that finally figured out that Only and I are related (Only saw Dr. K on Monday, me Wednesday).

    5. Future plans included Papa J’s memorial service tomorrow. Stormy’s soccer games for tomorrow have been resheduled for October so big YAY! Too hot for 9 yos to be playing hard. The Kids plan to eat at Papa J’s favorite pizza place after the service and is inviting anyone who wishes to come. Stormy is also going to read one of the poem’s his grandfather wrote during the service. Why, yes, I am taking a box of tissues, why do you ask? It should be a sweet service for a sweet man and while we’re sad, we all know he’s in a better place.

On that slightly bittersweet note, I’m working on a plan for office domination that does NOT include moving every bit of furniture in the room. I’m itching to do it now but I’m making myself wait until the dang book is released into the wild. Then I can take a short break, rearrange and start the next project with renewed vigor. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it! Have a great weekend all!!!

    1. You don’t buy for one moment that you are lazy. Great on making the dough ahead of time so it could REALLY chill.
    2. I’m sorry the chocolate chip cookies upset your stomach. It would be so nice if they let us be.
    3. Getting hair done is the best. I bet it looks great as just getting it done.
    4. You are not alone in being ready for the heat to go away. Kuddos for trying to fix the web site. I would have no idea where to start.
    5. I hope Wizard and BLB have a great time. Stay safe to all if them. You have a great TURBO time :)!

1a. Hubs is now afraid of storms. We had two nights in a row of terrible storm and tons of rain. Not a fun night here.
2a. C and C lost power and had several trees down this morning so female C came over here to work. She was so quiet that when she came downstairs I jumped.
3a. If my brother doesn’t have any bleeding issues, they are going to do the heart surgery next Wednesday. He’s really doing bad so any prayers will be appreciated.
4a. Even tough it’s hot, I’m in the mood for eggplant so the oven is going on in about 5 minutes.
5a. A didn’t feel well three days ago and is still not well. It took three days/tests but he has Covid again. Stinks.

Enjoy your weekend and have a wonderful time with Turbo!

Silver, I just finished baking the cookies :-) But they need to set because they are a thicker bakery like cookie. I only made a smaller batch of these, however I have left over macadamia nuts that I can put in stuff I can eat that’s baked goods, stir fries or salad so I’m good. On the learning how this website works and coding — I’ve done nothing. I’m going to have to figure out a way to learn it without screwing anything up more and that’s not usually how these things works for me, LOL. I usually mess things up and learn by figuring out how to fix then, hence my hesitation.

    1) Sadly, I think your observations on Shylock are born of a heck of a lot of experience and therefore, you may be right. But at least Repeat is there. I know one doesn’t replace the other, but each animal is comforting in their own way.
    2) Wouldn’t it be night if progress was a straight line forward? But that’s just not how it works so we call any progress great!
    3) I heard some podcaster from OK talking about the same thing and thought of you. Unrelenting heat like that is hard to take after a while. At least we live in a time with A/C!
    4) Pretty good eye exam! I believe you already knew about the damage in the left eye, but still it’s not fun to hear it’s permanent. LOL on the girl just figuring out you and Only are related.
    5) You’re going to need the Kleenex — that is so sweet and special that Stormy is going to read that poem. It’s a beautiful tribute to his great grandfather (I believe). I hope the service and meeting up afterward really brings comfort and very special memories to all his loved ones.

I’m also glad they cancelled the soccer game in the heat! Most of us sports parents have seen kids (or parents on the sidelines) get sick from the heat and it’s no joke.

I love your office domination plan! And I 100% get the not wanting to move anything more than absolutely necessary!

Viki, I sort of chill these twice — once in the bowl, then I form them into roughly shaped 3 ounce balls and chill again before baking. It helps them get a little bit crisp on the outside and very soft on the inside.

I can eat a cookie like that once in a while, just not one a day for five days :-) I can’t really complain about that, especially since I can eat a piece of dark chocolate every day and be fine.

    1) I’m really sorry he’s progressing to new fears. It’s a lot for you to cope with.
    2) That’s so nice that she can come to your house to work! LOL on startling you in the kitchen. That happens to me now and again, especially if I’m concentrating on something.
    3) Oh no, I didn’t realize your brother was struggling quite that much. I’ll add my prayers for him.
    4) That’s funny, I just made stew this week even through its hot. It’s like we’re all trying lure fall by cooking our meals for cooler weather.
    5) Ugh, I’m so sorry A has Covid again. I swear that virus has favorite people it haunts. I know a few people who’ve had it two or three times. Hope he recovers quickly.

Hope you have a good weekend!

Papa J is Baseball Boy’s dad so Stormy grandfather. I wasn’t very clear, which is why I have to get my brain in editor mode. LOL It’ll be intersting. BB’s half brothers are a pair NOT to draw to, though one of them did have a pretty cool daughter, even though the last time I saw her, she’d become an “old lady” to a member of an MC. Of course, her dad’s a member so there ya go. And yes, he wore his colors to his mother’s and his aunt’s funerals. Fun times. LG was in a suit and tie. But Jim was a good guy and we loved him so that’s all that’s important.

Silver, sounds like there will be quite a cast of characters there! And I like nice people regardless of their affiliations or beliefs probably as you do.

You weren’t really unclear as you’ve mentioned Papa J being BB’s dad in the past, but I suddenly was questioning if I remembered that correctly. So it’s me not you :-)

I hope the service was good, honoring the man you all remember and bringing some comfort and peace to all.
