Weekend Roundup

TGIF!! Time to share 5 random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. It’s been so hot this week, I stayed inside and cleaned the beginning of the weak, and felt that by Wednesday night, LOL. Thursday I consciously slowed my pace and treated some RA symptoms and by today I’ll be fine. I suspect the humidity coming in hard then leaving also was a factor.
  2. For a Maggie laugh, she loves to run and jump onto her bed in our room, and slide it into the corner between the wall and the nightstand. She does it intentionally, and has done it two or three times in a row. It’s fun, I guess or that’s how she moves her bed. Well the other morning she ran ahead of me when I heard a thunk. I went into the room, and Maggie was staggering slightly, tilting and shaking her head. Sure enough she’d finally hit the nightstand. She recovered 30 seconds after I got in there, and once I realized she was fine, I laughed. She looked like a confused drunk those fist few seconds, and I don’t think she quite knows what happened. After that, she did a two mile walk, ate breakfast, and acted normally. That very night, she ran and jumped on her bed to make it slide into the corner again. If she does hit the nightstand again, I’ll move the bed. But it was the first time in almost a year of living here so I’m not too worried.
  3. I’m writing this on Thursday, and tonight we’re going to dinner with my daughter in law and youngest son for my DIL’s birthday. We are so looking forward to that, and I imagine it’ll be a nice night.
  4. After dinner they coming over our house for cake. I made a gluten free, dairy free cake and because of the dairy free butter, the layers were slipping making the cake lumpy and tilted. It was pretty funny, but with a bit of work, I managed to get it straightened out. My original plan was to put a marbled fondant on it over the layer of buttercream, however I didn’t trust the cake without gluten plus the weaker non dairy icing to be able to support the weight of fondant so I improvised. This is how it turned out: By the way, if anyone is worried about food safety, I washed the silk flowers on the top :-)
  5. Turbo is coming tomorrow! It should be fun. I’m not sure if his parents were able to get the reservations they wanted at the spa, or if they’ll be here too. Either way is fine, it’ll be a fun and easy day. Today I’m hopefully going to Trader Joes and since I’m not baking anything else, I’ll buy some fun snacks there. I have nothing planned for meals, we’ll just pick something up if my son and daughter in law are here.

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours!

I’m so glad everything is good well for you and yours. Yay for Maggie, silly dog. Yay for Turbo time! Ooo, pretty cake!

    1) Work is slammed. Every day. I barely have time or energy to hang out with Hubs and the cats before bed and then it’s up and at it again.
    2) Yesterday, I had a few minutes to screw around online before work. Well, then I lost track of time and Hubs comes into the office 17 minutes before I had to be to work to ask if I was ready to go. His polite way of poking me in the butt. Lucky for me, I only work like 5 minutes away and I’m a fast dresser. I made it to work with 5 minutes to spare. (But only because Hubs packed my lunch and started my car.)
    3) The kittens are getting big. They’re 8 months old now. Sawyer is still full of vim and vinegar. Finn is still my cuddle bug.
    4) I’m getting a lot of praise at work. I feel like saying ‘no applause, just throw money’. LOL
    5) A couple of days ago, Sawyer got his head stuck in one of my glass vases. I was at work, but Hubs gave me the blow-by-blow. Long story short, he had to break the vase to get it off, but no kitties were injured in the making of this drama. Hubs sustained minor scratches. All is well.

Wait! Is it Monday already? ;) Poor Maggie but I would have laughed too and she obviously is none the worse for the wear. Yay for family time and pretty cake! My five:

    1. On the sad front, Shylock Cat has apparently crossed the rainbow bridge. No sign of him for over a week now. In happier news, Beejer (aka Baghera) was here for breakfast today, along with Repeat, Tut/Hissy Cat, Smudge, and a cat from down the block who is fat, has a family, but they occasionally forget to let him in so he shows up here to panhandle for breakfast.

    2. I have a cover! Reveal to come soon.

    3. Big news, CROSSFIRE is off to the proofreader. Edits/revisions done. I’ll start formatting today. Probably. I’ll fix any proof-goofs when they come back and then it’ll be ready to go. The dreaded blurb is already written.

    4. I may take a day or two off and work on rearranging at least my desk corner of my office. I’m hoping new vistas will get me back on track with a serious focus on writing.

    5. First Saturday tomorrow, even though it’s a holiday weekend, so siren and then BBQ with the Kids for lunch. Soccer games don’t start until next weekend so mostly an easy Saturday with college football tomorrow night on TV.

Have a safe and sane Labor Day weekend, all!

    1. Smart to stay in when it’s so horribly hot. Sounds like you over did it with cleaning. You have to take care of you!
    2. Poor Maggie. That must have hurt. It also had to have been funny. Good thing she shook it off.
3/4. I bet dinner was great. That cake is beautiful.
    5. I’m terrible with snacks at TJ’s and dog treats too.
Yum! Turbo time tomorrow 🥰. We all know you’re having a great time!

1a. My brother’s surgery went well. Thank you for keeping him in your prayers. When I talked to him he sounded almost 100%. He said the brain fog was lifting. I told him that it was because oxygen was finally getting to his brain. Hopefully he will recover well enough to go back to work Nov 1st.
    2. I made those bar cookies and hubs loves them.
    3. It’s been beautiful weather here the past three days but we’re going back to the 90’s with humidity – bummer.
    4. I finally got around to making the appointment for my bone density test. I’ve never had one and the Dr. wants a baseline. There is just so much going on all the time and with hubs it’s even worse.
    5. A’s wife is leaving Sunday for 2 weeks with her girlfriend to Italy. A doesn’t travel well so these are normal vacations. A will be coming over Monday to go kayaking with hubs and C. Good male bonding time ;).

Have tons of fun with Turbo!

I hope everyone has a nice Labor Day.

B.E., it’s great to see you here! Maggie is definitely silly sometimes, LOL! It was even funnier because she has this jump-and-slide-her-bed-into-the-corner-game mastered…until she doesn’t, clearly!

    1) I guessed work was super busy. I hope you enjoy at least some of it! It’s a lot to work at a high demand job fulltime, but you seem to be handling it!
    2) You’re quick at getting ready. And hubs is great to remind you, plus be so helpful packing your lunch and starting your car. That’s real teamwork!
    3) You get the best of both worlds with your kittens. Sawyer is entertaining and Finn provides sweetness with cuddles.
    4) If I had to choose, I’d say Amen to money over praise from work too! But I think the praise is awesome.
    5) Oh well, now that was freak me a bit if I saw Sawyer with his head stuck in a vase! But hubs clearly handled it like a champ, although I’m sorry he got scratched (totally understandable though — had to be scary for Sawyer).

Hope you have a great weekend, maybe you even have Labor day off :-)

Silver, thanks, this was a pretty easy cake.

    1) I’m sorry about Shylock, the life of a feral cat is hard. Smudge sounds pretty smart :-) but who forgets to let their animals in? Well I can’t really judge since I don’t have a cat, it’s probably easier to forget than I think it is.
    2) That’s a cover tease for sure!
    3) That definitely qualifies for big news! Congratulations on getting CROSSFIRE to the proofreader! And you even have the blurb written. I’m very impressed and happy it’ll be coming soon!
    4) You deserve a couple days off to do something you want to do. If working on your office is it — then go for it! (Rearranging my office makes me love being in the office a lot more these days!)
    5) Hope the siren tests goes off without a hitch, you have an excellent lunch with the kids and tons of good football!

And yes, let me add my vote on “sane” for the holiday weekend. Enjoy!!

Viki, I’m not sure if I over did or something acting up. But I’ve cut my activity down including yoga. And yeah, when I first saw Maggie after she collided with the nightstand, I was worried and felt bad for her. But once I realized she was fine, I laughed. I tend to think she was more shocked than hurt, but who knows with Maggie.

    1) That is GREAT news about your brother’s surgery! I’m amazed he sounded that good, but definitely a sign the surgery corrected the problem. Now let’s hope and pray he has a fast and full recovery.
    2) They must have been some good cookie bars!
    3) Ugh I’m sorry for the humidity. We’re having another humid day here, so I can fully sympathize.
    4) A baseline bone density is a good idea (I’ve had a few of those tests, they are pretty simple and quick). But juggling your schedule for medical tests is more tricky and stressful than it once was.
    5) I hope she has a fabulous time in Italy with her girlfriends! I’m a bit jealous in a good way. Awesome that C is coming over to kayak with hubs — good for both of them, and gives you a little time to yourself too.

I hope you have a good evening and weekend!
