Friday Five

TGIF! It’s time to jump into sharing five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. We went to see Wizard’s mom and took Maggie with us. His mom wasn’t feeling her best right now (she should be fine though), and Maggie definitely cheered her up. It’s just amazes me how much she enjoys Maggie since she wasn’t particularly a dog person before this time in her life. I’m just grateful Maggie can make her happy.
  2. We started Maggie on some meds this week to help her with her occasional bladder issues. We also have an x-ray scheduled for her for next Thursday. It’s a “drop off” appointment so I’ll drop her off a bit after 8am and they’ll call after they find time to shoot the x-ray. It’ll also be a good time and place to see how she does in a kennel when I’m not there. I can get her to go in her kennel at home (after her panic attacks in there), but I never close the door. At the vet’s office, they can give her a mild tranquilizer if she’s too panicked. It’ll be good for us to know how she does before we make any vacation plans.
  3. The weather has cooled a bit. That’s nice and gives me hope that fall will come. Wizard even got out and weeded the planters while I baked bread and cleaned inside. It’s not quite no A/C weather for us, but it’s not bad!
  4. I have to find a new hair person, and I’ve already procrastinated too long. I just don’t want to, LOL. But I guess I can manage this task…or grow into a gray witch. I mean…maybe? Once a year on Halloween, I’d be right on point! But I’ll probably suck it up and find someone to prevent that from happening yet.
  5. I don’t have firm plans for the weekend. We’ve been juggling some family stuff on Wizard’s side, plus appointments and life in general so I’m doing a wait and see on that. It wouldn’t object to a quiet weekend.

Mine are boring, but I’d really love to hear your five! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hope Wiz’s mom perks up soon and yay for Maggie. Hopefully, kenneling won’t be an issue. 🤞🏼 Yay for not-as-hot weather, weeding, and baking. Good luck on the hairdreser hunt and I’m all for quiet weekends! Okay, my boring five:

    1. We DO have fall weather. Highs in the 70s, lows in the low 60s so no AC here. Supposed to warm up a little next week so we’ll probably turn the AC back on but that’s okay.

    2. Since it has been cool, I made spaghetti and hot rolls for dinner last night. I MISS cool weather food. I mean, I like summer food okay because easy but there’s just something comforting about spaghetti and chili and hot bread and stuff like that there.

    3. Since rearranging the office (which is still an on-going process due to sorting packed boxes) I actually saw a hummingbird at the feeder! First time this year. I know they’ve been there because I’ve had to refill it several times. I was excited. It’s the little things, right? LOLOL

    4. Speaking of birds, there is a bird that I have never seen but keep hearing. I have no clue what it is. I even have TWO bird call ID apps on my phone to try to identify it. Thing is, by the time I get the dang app open and “listening,” the bird either stops or other, noisier birds chime in. The bird sounds sort of like “binb ba-binb.” Which is a total approximation because it is a distinctively weird call. I’ve been “chasing” this critter for two years now! Yes, I am obsessed, why do you ask?

    5. Stormy is here today. Professional days at his school and Baseball Boy’s. He’s in a soccer tournament this weekend playing tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. At least the weather is nice and the park we’re going to is supposed to be upgraded. Still, according to their field map, it’s a bit of a hike from the parking lot to the field. Ah well. We all need our exercise. LOLOL Beyond soccer, I’m going to watch college football and take life easy.

    Have a great weekend, all!

    1. Maggie is a sweetie. So happy she was able to cheer up Wizard’s mom.
    2. Are the meds helping with the bladder control? That is a good place to test Maggie on the kennel.
    3. Great news on it cooling down a bit.
    4. It is SO hard to find a stylist. Wishing you the best of luck in finding one soon.
    5. Family issues are taxing. I pray things get easier for you. Maybe you can FT with Turbo and lighten things up a little.

    1a. Family issues are taxing.
2a. Just got a new letter from the IRS. They completely ignored all the documentation I sent them proving they already cashed my check back in March and are demanding that payment AGAIN along with penalty and interest. I don’t know what to do and hubs can’t help.
3a. The microwave in my wall dual oven broke Wednesday. The size is super small and I can’t find a replacement. I’ve looked for over 15 years along with my big downdraft oven. Again, the size is unusual.
4a. It cooled down to the 60’s and hubs has insisted on turning on the furnace😠. I hate the heat and was looking forward to cool air. I’m very frustrated.
5a. My brother is sounding so much better. He’s still weak. If he builds back up at a reasonable pace, I think he’ll be able to go back to work in Nov.

I hope your weekend is a good one.

Silver, thank you on Wizards mom and Maggie!

    1) Yay for good weather! We’re down in the 80s here now and I appreciate it.
    2) Spaghetti and rolls sounds good to me. I rarely eat noodles or rolls now and miss it. Enjoy!
    3) Hummingbirds are special and I’m glad you’re getting to see them. They like our flowers so that’s been nice for us too.
    4) Wow that’s both interesting and frustrating with the mystery bird. I hope you can find out soon. By the way, that would be me trying to get my phone on and bring up the app fast enough to capture the sound the bird makes. You have my sympathies on that struggle :-) About the only time I did it in time was when we were hit and the guy tried to run, and I videoed him. But that was pure luck, mostly I take pictures of my thumb, LOL.
    5) I really hope this field turns out much nicer than the last one, even if you do have to manage a walk (which I know can bring it’s own set of challenges). And I hope Stormy had good games!

Have a fun and not-too-tiring weekend!

Viki, Maggies seems a bit “off” since she started the meds, but she’s eating well. We plan to give her the week to adjust then talk to the vet on Thursday. As for if they are helping, it’ll take more time to know because she tends to go in cycles of accidents, then it get better then it starts again.

    1) Sometimes families are hard. And sometimes life is hard. Big hugs.
    2) I’m so sorry you’re going through this with the IRS. It’s my understanding that nothing is solved with them the first time around, sort of like insurance companies (but I could be wrong). And obviously I’m not giving tax advice nor would I even be remotely qualified to do so — but maybe it’s time to talk to a tax accountant or a CPA. At least to get clarity on what the IRS is asking (or demanding) and how to respond in a way that closes the matter. Again, I’m so sorry! No one wants to deal with this.
    3) How utterly frustrating on your microwave and oven. I hope you can find something that fits and that you like.
    4) I’d be frustrated with that too! I’m sorry! I suspect most couples go through some version so this dispute. It’s taken me years to convince Wizard I don’t mind when he kicks the heater up a few degrees because when we were first married, he’d turn it up to 80 or 85 “to warm the house” which turned it into an oven. And since I usually go to bed after him, I turn it down at night — insomnia has it’s benefits, LOL!
    5) Sounds like your brother is healing well. With the three heart surgery folks in my family, returning to full strength and energy took longer than the patients like, but that may just be our experience. I truly hope your brother regains his energy much quicker now.

I hope you can resolve the IRS problem and really hope you can have a peaceful and relaxing weekend ( or at least a few blissful hours to yourself!).
