Friday Five

TGIF! It’s the last Friday of the month and time to share five random thing about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. I got the towels I was fretting about, which is good. Wizard’s brother will be here at the end of next week for a couple nights and I should be set there. However, I kind of wished Id ordered the color I originally wanted. I made the mistake of asking Wizard’s opinion since he lives here too :-) But the towels are fine, they are an orchid color which is darker than I wanted. I had a spice color picked out that I thought would brightened the bathroom more. And yeah, this is not even a real problem, LOL. It’ll all work fine once I bright in a bit more decor (which I don’t need for Wizard’s brother, he won’t care).
  2. I got my hair cut by the new person. I kept it simple, I just asked her to cover my gray roots and even out some issues. I’m letting it the length grow a bit as the last time it was just too short. This new stylist did well. I’m not committing yet for two reasons: I need to wash and blow dry it a couple times to see if I’m happy; and I may have another recommendation. I’m debating if I try that stylist too then choose the one that is the better fit. Again this is a slight dilemma not a problem!
  3. I don’t think I’m going to have any luck getting in sooner than November 13th to see the ENT for my throat and nose issues. However the good news is that at least I do have the November 13th appointment as now everyone is booking well into January and farther out than that. So I have that much to be thankful for.
  4. I made and baked bread and granola yesterday. I planned on making some cookies too, but ran out of energy :-) I’m also excited as I ran out to Trader Joes and found a gluten free (or close enough) cereal that I should be able to eat for a reasonable price. I was super excited because I really like eating :-)
  5. In fun news, we have a small, two-night trip planned for the beginning of November with two of the boys and their families. The third son already had a separate trip planned. However, we have another trip mid next year still in the planning stages, and he and his wife have committed to going on that one. Those are both fun thing to look forward to!

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a fun and safe weekend!

Picking towels is a thing! Glad you’re okay with the choice but yeah, second guesses. 🤣 So glad I cut my own hair and no longer worry about roots. Good luck with the current situation! I bet your hair is cute. A month and a half is a long time but better than 4 months! Yay for bro time, bread, and cereal! And fun family times FTW! Okay, my 5:

    1. Maybe TMI but…I bought a pack of new cotton undies. $16 for 6 but they fit and are comfy and I should be embarrassed to admit how old the old one are. *Ahem*

    2. Amazon has a new *thing* to bedevil self-pubbed authors. They have an AI question that has to be answered and evidently, if it isn’t, books are relagated to the algorithm cellar. A friend spread the news after the NINC conference so I spent Wednesday updating everyone of my books AND paperbacks (has to be done separately). Took me all frickin’ day due to glitches on their end. Grrrr. 😡 (If you need info on this, Jen, I’ll forward Judy’s newsletter with the info.)

    3. Jake got a bath. His white fur is white again, instead of gray. So far, he hasn’t gone out and rolled in the sand of the backyard. But he spent yesterday pouting and avoiding me. 🤣 I kept telling him that he’s half water dog and shouldn’t mind getting wet. He didn’t believe me.

    4. A bit of nostalgia (and reminder than I’m OLD!). Our local triple A baseball team won their league championship for the first time since 1996 (when they were the 89ers) and it’s the first won in the current ballpark which is celebrating it’s 25th year (opened in 1998). Only went to a baseball camp the first summer Bricktown Ballpark was opened, but this was not her first. She’d gone the two previous years at the old park. The team’s name had changed to the Redhawks (they’re now the Dodgers and affliated with the LA Dodgers). She made the nightly news. True story. I was on the field as an extra athletic trainer and wrangler so I saw this firsthand. Only was in the group taking batting practice with live pitching from a pitcher who moved up to the Texas Rangers (MLB affliate at the time). When Only came up to bat, the pitcher stepped out from the screen to pitch. The Redhawks manager warned him to pitch from behind the screen. The pitcher laughed and muttered, “softball player.” He was throwing her “soft” pitches. She put her bat head down on homeplate and stared at him with free hand on her hip. “I thought you were a pitcher,” she called. “The least you can do is throw me a strike.” That got laughs from kids and players so yeah, the pitcher threw her a fastball down the middle. She nailed it and hit a line drive right back at him. He ended up flat on his back having barely ducked in time. The manager stood over him and said, “Told you so. And she plays fastpitch. There IS a difference.” That whole sequence appeared on the local news that night and the newscaster’s comment back to the reporter was, “That kid can REALLY play ball!” Only was wearing a shirt that said “Girls rule, boys drool.” I was so proud. 🤣🤣 She was 12.

    5. I’ll try to make this week’s Pete story short, given the previous randomness. Pete and Loki were playing tag hide-n-seek. Pete went under the bed. Loki crouched at the foot waiting for him to come out. Pete did–from the side. He darted around, tagged Loki and took off for kitchen. Loki went under the TV cabinet (it’s an antique linen press repurposed) and Pete came back and he was crouched at the foot of the bed with his head under the bedspread looking for Loki, who pounced from under the cabinet. They both jumped into the air and then took off for a chase through the house. Ah, cats.

Have a great weekend, all, and apologies for being long-winded. Hey, I’m writer. There’s no such thing as making a long story short. 🤣

    1. I’m glad the towels arrived. You can get the towels you really want down the road a bit. That way you can be sure to get the color you want.
    2. That’s a good idea to wait a bit before committing to the stylist. Though it’s good to know you like what she did. Fingers crossed that you can work with it too.
    3. Wow, now they’re booking in Jan. OMH! I still haven’t been able to get in for my annual gyn appointment. It was supposed to be in Aug but she was booked. They were supposed to call me when they had OCT schedule to book me but they haven’t. It’s crazy how backed up the medical people are.
    4. 😂I really like eating too. Excellent that you found a cereal you like at TJ. It’s fun to go there.
    5. Nice! Nov is a beautiful tome of year all over so your trip should be lovely.

1a. The wall oven combo should arrive next Friday while Harrison is here. I think it will stay in my garage until C and stucco guy can install it.
2a. I went in to Target yesterday on the advice of female C. She super tiny, even smaller than me and she found some really nice sweaters that fit. SO I ended up with sweaters and pants. They never carried XS before so I am happy about my loot.
3a. Went for the bone scan. It’s not good which shocked me because I lift weights and I eat tons of green leafy veggies every day (over 8 cups). Not osteoporosis but osteopenia.
4a. Kids and I are going to get together soon to plan how to handle what will be coming with hubs.
5a. Spunk had a bad day. He didn’t keep anything down. Now he’s hungry. I wish he were like a human and I could give him rice and banana.

    Have a wonderful weekend!

Silver, well I don’t think my whining about the appointment will help it get here any faster :-) And the towels will do the job, and also, making my brother-in-law use purple towels amuses me. He torments me to so it’s all good.

I blow dried my hair today and I’m liking it. Change is just hard, LOL.

    1) Not TMI for me! I have trouble finding undies that fit right for some reason. Pretty sure I’m weird shape or something. Glad you found the right set at the right price.
    2) Huh, I’m so out of the loop, I had no idea. What a royal pain, and it makes me NOT miss writing and publishing at the moment. Sorry it took up so much time. If you have a chance sometime to forward the newsletter, that’d be great, thank you.
    3) WHAT?? You made Jake take a bath! Oh the horrors! LOLOL!! Maggie is the same but she’s forgives quickly. Tell Jake Maggie thinks he’s in the right here and must have extra treats.
    4) I love that story about Only and the pitcher!!! What a great memory and also awesome that the media caught the moment. It’s so rare when they get those clips, I hope you have a copy of it!
    5) Loki and Pete should have their own TV show! I love that they are playing together now. Pete has really settled in and Loki has accepted him.

No apologies, I loved the stories! It’s a great distraction for me and made me smile. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Viki, wow your gyn is backed up too. It’s just sad and a bit scary how little help we can get from medical types these days. I’m still shocked at how genuinely upset my doc was at not being able to find and ENT to see me sooner. So even our docs are feeling it.

    1) Yay for the combo oven getting there soon! But yeah, I think it’s smart to wait for Harrison and family to go home before tackling that project. I am excited that you get to see them all soon.
    2) It’s a score to find clothes that fit the way you want them too! Even better at reasonably priced places like Target.
    3) I’m sorry for the less than happy news on your bone density. Unfortunately that often comes with being female, it’s the way our hormones work. Plus any meds or treatments we’ve had can affect bone density. But you do take overall good care of yourself and that helps.
    4) That meeting is necessary but hard to do. I hope it goes well and you all can agree. It’s a tough situation and I wish you guys all the love and wisdom you’ll need to make the best choices.
    5) Oh poor Spunk. I’m so sorry. I always get some worried and feel helpless when Maggie is sick.

I sure hope Spunk is starting to feel better and is recovered by tomorrow. Enjoy your weekend!

You have mail. :-D Oh, and we do have the newscast on a VHS tape. I have no clue if it’s still viewable and should probably try to get it digitized or something. LOL I mean, it’s only be 25 years.
