I’ve been reading category and suddenly needed a sexier read. I get a specific craving every now and again like that–historic, erotic, vampires, non-romance, mystery, suspense–all kinds of reading cravings. This time, it was for something hot and sexy. So I downloaded a Lora Leigh book–can’t get much sexier than that! And you know what I’m realizing?
It’s not the sex that keeps me reading.
It’s the emotion.
She’s digs into the heart of her characters and makes the reader feel their deep, secret need to be loved. Not just the heroines, but the heroes too. And somehow, it works. They men don’t come across as wimpy.
Sigh…
And that is all, because I must go back to the book and see if the characters get their hearts broken or their dreams fulfilled!
Now for my question: What’s your reader craving?

My cravings are usually for a certain author rather than a certain genre. Or I’ll start thinking about a scene from a book I read and then I have to dig out that book and reread it. These days I tend to read mostly paranormal (love those witches, vampires, weres, etc.), but I also read some other stuff. I read a couple of authors who write historical romance. I’ve started reading a couple of YA authors. Sci-fi/fantasy, mystery, general fiction.

With me it depends on the Author, if its one of my faves then im more likely to read all of their books. If i find a new book from a new author that i really like then ill read all their other books as well and catch up.
At the moment i have so many books i havent read that i have about 4 book cases full, and thats just with books i still have to read, im ashamed off myself (hangs her head in shame).
I do tent to stick to one type of Genre though, and like Dawn i am a Paranormal girl. Vampires, Werewolves,Witches and Shape-shifters are just some of them. although im a bit of a secret Sci-fi geek and i also love the Star Wars books (SHHHH dont tell anyone)

You ever get those times when you walk around the kitchen looking for something to eat, but you don’t know what you want? Lately my reading cravings are like that. I flip through my TBR pile until something strikes me. And if I can’t find anything there, I hit my library. If I can’t find anything there, I’ll go find something else to do until my craving sharpens into a fine enough point to know what it is I really want.

Love Lora Leigh’s books, she is one of my favs and her books get purchased and read ASAP after release. Like you Jen the emotion of the characters is what draws me in and the smoking hot sex scenes are just icing on the cake, but man what decadent icing it is, lol.
My reader craving is usually for a lighthearted, fun read that will make me laugh. Shelly Laurenston is my go to gal for this kind of story. I do have a few other authors that can fill this bill, but I kinda wish I knew more. Lots of times when I get this craving I don’t have a book on my TBR pile that satisfies. I read mostly paranormal’s myself but my mom gives me thriller type stories that are a nice change of pace now and then. I recently read Meljean Brooks “The Iron Duke”, which is a steampunk novel, my first. I like her as an author but wasn’t sure about the steampunk thing. I was happily surprised to find I really enjoyed it. I’m planning on looking into more steampunk stories to see if it was the author or the genre I liked.

My reading craving at the moment is for time TO read! I also have a stack of Golden Heart entries to read. That said, I’m hooked on the Jayne Ann Krentz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle Arcane Society series. I read the Harmony and St. Helen’s series and loved them. I finally broke down and downloaded the first two Arcane Society books. Now I want them ALL! All I need is money and time. LOLOL All three series are tied in together and that just makes it cooler! (I wish I had her talent for keeping worlds straight
— I must work on that for when the Penumbra series sells!)
Okay. Break time over. I have about 500 more words to write before I can quit for the day. Later, witches!

Dawn, I’ve done that too–had to dig out a book to reread a scene! And I crave certain authors too.

Zoe, your secret is safe here! Paranormal is my biggest love, but this year, I’m trying to expand a little bit. Btu seriously, vampires, witches and shapeshifters rock!
And I’m always behind on reading (and buying!) too.

Wow, B.E., you really understand your craving! I love your line:
“I’ll go find something else to do until my craving sharpens into a fine enough point to know what it is I really want.”
That’s exactly what I’ve done many times without realizing it! You’re so smart

Val, it is decadent icing…often a flavor I will never sample in real life, LOL!
Oh Shelly! I love her books and haven’t read her in a while. I feel a craving coming on!
I’ve heard really good things about The Iron Duke, but haven’t read it yet.

Silver, I’m with you on the money and time! Although I’ve had time lately unlike you, Ms.Mother Of The Bride!
I really like Jayne, and read her books as I find them, but I haven’t ever read a complete series. But I really enjoy her books!
Hope you get your words done!
