Weekend Roundup

Good weekend! I worked a lot and I’m nearly finished revising Obsession. I’ll be sending it back to my editor by Wednesday.

However I won’t have the book published by my projected September 24th date.  I can’t get it proofread (after two rounds of editing) and formatted by that date.  So I’m thinking that OBSESSION will be “live” on Amazon, B&N and Kobo between October 7th and 10th.  Apple/iTunes takes longer for some mysterious reason.

I’m excited to see what people think of the last book int his series.  I feel like I’ve been living with these two for a very long time.  I don’t want to let them go, but I really believe it’s time.

One “behind the scenes tidbit”.  OBSESSION (without title page and all that extra stuff) comes out to 255 manuscript pages. My cut file, which is exactly what it sounds like–I cut scenes and put them there in the cut file–is 157 pages. Plus on my last pass I cut another four-page scene I didn’t put in the cut file. That’s how many pages of scenes I write then cut. Sometimes I use some of those pages elsewhere, other times they pages just didn’t work for the story. That’s just  little behind the scenes insight into the how I work :-)

So tell me how your weekend was! I always want to know!

Wow, you did quite a bit this weekend. It’s always amazes me how you guys put books together. If I wrote (and the world is glad I don’t ;) ) I’d be a total mess.

October is a great time for OBSESSION to come out. I see myself with some mulled cider and my read in hand.

Did you get any pool time in? I hope so.

I didn’t do anything exciting this weekend. Hubs got home around 1 am Sat. All he wanted to do was work out but was too tired. I finally sent him on a bike ride and that helped. Now I want to send him back, hee hee, he’s snoring WAY to loud.

    Have a great day!

I can’t wait to read Obsession. (Well, I can wait an extra week or three, but you know what I mean.)

Thanks for the window into your process. My hard drive is littered with cut scenes and scraps and old versions of books. I sometimes wonder if we added up all the actual words we write – every deleted scene or reworked passage – how many words we really write with each book. Feels like a million sometimes. LOL

The weekend was okay. My college team won in a squeaker that should’ve been a walk in the park – which was irritating. I got the nitpicky edits done for Djinnocide and I’m ready to start querying that sucker again. But Harper Voyager finally made another announcement on their progress from last October’s submission window – they’re down to 550. Since I still haven’t gotten a rejection from them, I’m still in the running. That kind of makes me hesitant about querying again, but I’m going for it. If HV wants to publish Djinnocide, I’ll deal with it then.

Dang, I hate that you moved back the date on OBSESSION, but understand the process. Wow, you really did cut scenes! I’ve done that a bit, but I don’t think I’ve ever cut that much. I’m an edit-as-I-go type and hate to do major editing after the-end. One thing I’ve learned though, is we all have our ways. Good thing there’s really no rules to the process! haha

I got some words in Friday on SUMMER’S EDGE, the book after ROUGH EDGES. :D I was so happy. Just to work on it at all makes me happy.

This weekend I’ve been decorating my office a bit. We moved back in January and I’m finding my style in here. Bright colors, that’s all I can say. hehe Hoping to make it a bright happy place I want be. The craziest decorations make me smile. But hey, whatever works! LY girlie!

I cannot wait for Obsession (well I can wait just a bit longer) . The best part is that it comes out (or rather is estimated) to come out around my birthday, so when its available it will be my birthday present to myself :-D . My weekend however was full of . . . rain. More flooding and even tornado warnings, but I still got to see my friends, my nephew, and the rest of my family so not overly bad. And my dad fixed my car, so i don’t have to continue “borrowing” my moms.

Viki, LOL on the snoring and sending him back :-) It sounds like he was exhausted. Hope next weekend is a bit more fun for you.

I did get some pool time in. It helps loosen me up after sitting so much.

My writing process is a complete mess. You would have a much more organized process!

B.E., congrats on making it to the next round! That’s great news! I hope you’ll keep querying, and if you end up with two interested parties, that’s great.

Wizard always wants to add up my words I write and the hours to figure out how much I make an hour/word. But it would be beyond depressing, LOL! Now I have author-friends who write clean with very little cutting. I don’t know why I stay friends with them :-)

Ashlynn, I know, and I’m sorry on moving the date back! I feel bad because readers have been amazing and I hate making them wait.

You’re so right that we all have different writing processes. I wish I wrote as clean as you do, but I don’t :-(

Congrats on getting words done on SUMMER’S EDGE! And decorating your office sounds fun!

Amanda, wow you did have some wild weather. Glad you still got to have fun! And that you have your car back.

And thank you for being excited about Obsession!

LOL, well, I’m not one of those people, Jen. I write dirty drafts and hope they work out in editing.

I am soooooo late getting around to my blog visits today. I’m desperate to get SEASON OF THE WITCH to the formatter so I pretty much stayed off social media today. :( Made me a sad camper. You know, it’s a good thing we all edit, cut, revise, etc. Otherwise, every book out there would be doorstops of 1000 pages! And I’ll wait for OBSESSION. It’ll give me time to get caught up and reread the first two right before it release! :D

    Have a great week everyone.
