Random Friday Five
Time to list five random things about our week!
- Maggie LOVES my sister! Biker Witch came over yesterday to hang out and go to lunch. Maggie was all excited, played with her, and basked in a ridiculous amount of attention. She was so sad when Biker Witch left, I had to take her for a walk to distract her. I think it’s the first time that Biker Witch was here alone and could have Maggie all to herself.
- Wizard and I met his brother, who is herr from out of state for our niece’s wedding last weekend, for dinner. We had a good time. The only downside is we live 50 miles away from most of our family, so it’s always a time-consuming to do these things. On the other hand, we’re grateful to have family to visit, so we can’t complain too much.
- I keep waiting for life to slow down. But then again, being busy is better than being bored.
- This is one of Maggie’s many expression. In this shot, I have her on sit-stay on one of our walks. Wizard and I worked pretty diligently to reinforce this one command over others for safety. She’s pretty good about stopping and sitting when whenever we give her the “sit” or “stop” command. It keeps her from pulling me when we’re on uneven slopes, slippery rocks or steep stairs like this set I posted on my FB page: It also allows me to put her in a sit when trucks and offroad vehicles come by, and keep her safe at my side. Someone riding an ATV or motorcycle might not see her closer to the ground, but the almost always see me. If I have her sitting by my leg, then she’s safe. While she can heel, I’m not as big a stickler about that as the sit or stop command.
- We had an earthquake Thursday morning at 2.10 a.m. Of course it’s the one night I was actually sleeping, LOL. But it wasn’t strong enough to do any damage, so I’ll take lost sleep over a huge quake.
That’s my Friday Five, now it’s your turn to share yours! Hope you all have a great weekend!

What a face! And yay for Biker Witch/Maggie bonding. Good family is amazing.
Okay, my randomness…
1. 1099 are coming in. I’m not impressed. REALLY hoping this year is better.
2. I’m trying to get LG and me out of our “eating slump” — relying on the same meals week in and out — so I’m trying the new recipes I post on my blog.
3. Except for Tuesdays. Tuesdays are $10 Papa Murphy pizza days. Decisions are hard. Tuesdays are easy.
4. I really need to step up my word count on the current WIP. When I write, it’s all good stuff. It’s just sitting down and actually doing it.
5. LG’s phone died so he upgraded. While at the AT&T store, the clerk suggested he rearrange some of our packages and we ended up saving quite a bit of money. In addition, we learned that the new fiber-optics network is finally up and running in our neighborhood so the techs are coming Monday to set us up. That means we get to drop Cox. Yayayayayay! That means watching saved shows on our DVRs, clearing them in preparation to be returned, and cleaning house because…yeah. Busy weekend.
Have a great one, everybody!

1. Bet Biker Witch loves Maggie loving her ;).
1a. Just found out that for years my cousin has had all of her cats declawed. I’m sick over it and just can’t get it off my mind. For people that “love” animals, how can they not know how cruel this practice is?
2. Glad you got to spend time with Wizard’s brother. Our family is all at least 30 miles away from us, so totally relate.
2a. Hubs babysat Harrison yesterday for several hours while Cassie went shopping for new work clothes. He had a blast :).
3. I don’t think things ever slow down. They just change direction.
3a. I’m not getting much reading done. As soon as I get a chance to pick up a book (at bedtime) I fall asleep. The next day I have to try and figure out where I am because I dropped the bookmark ;).
4. I love Maggie and her expressions :). She appears well trained.
4a. It’s a beautiful day here today. It’s mid 50’s and bright sunshine. Guess what’s coming? Yup, another deep freeze.
5. Go figure that when you finally sleep an earthquake wakes you. Can’t win :(.
5a. Bought some Bon Jovi Jovi pasta sauce and we are trying it out tonight on goat cheese and basil ravioli.
Have a great weekend :)!

Silver, okay let’s do your 5
1) I hear you on 1099s. I did it to myself this year, but you’ve stayed on your schedule so that’s not fair to you. I hope this year is better for both of us.
2) I’ll check out your blog for meal ideas!
3) Yay for Papa Murphy Tuesdays.
4) Butt in the chair is the hardest part with some books.
5) Great news on the digital and cable/satellite front! We’ve put off new cellphones so long its a family joke but hearing that you saved money helps nudge me along.
Have fun watching all your shows and hope you get your word count in too!

Viki, Maggie isn’t super well trained, but it works for us :-). I’m more interested in safety than anything else.
1) I recently just found out what declawing involves, and I’m not a fan either. The only thing I can say is it’s already done, and maybe they didn’t know?
2) So cute that Hubs babysat Harrison! If I remember right, this isn’t the first time, right? Harrison must be growing so much now!
3) Hope you can get some quality downtime to read and NOT fall asleep. And I love that–Life doesn’t slow down, it just changes direction. So true, I think!
4) The weather just can’t be trusted. We had the opposite, a couple cool days and expecting highs in the eighties Sunday and Monday.
5) Ohhh! That Ravioli sounds delicious. I love it but rarely ever eat it. Hope the Bon Jovi sauce is good!
Have a great weekend!

Yay for Maggie! I’m so happy she’s turned out to be the awesome dog you knew she could be.
1) I finished the round of edits for Early Grave and now I have the whole weekend to polish before I send it off to my editor Monday.
2) My editor bumped my deadline for getting Blink back, which was supposed to be yesterday, to Monday. Serendipity, it’s a thing.
3) I’ve had my head up my edit hole a lot this year and it ain’t looking good for the rest of the year. I might have a break in May.
4) I follow the local animal rescue organization on FB and every once in a while, I’ll tell Hubs I found our new dog. And then, hopefully, down the road I’ll tell him our dog was adopted. Last week it was a gorgeous girl named Izzy who found a home with what appears to be a nice young couple. This week, it’s a dog named Carol Brady (because she came in with a litter of six puppies they named after the Brady kids). The pups all got new homes last weekend. I hope she gets adopted today at their offsite event.
5) I switched my Amazon Smile so donations now go to the above rescue place. I figure they need my money more than any national organization. It’s not much, but every penny helps, right?
