Wizard is Complicated

Happy Friday! Before I start, Wizard is home and doing well after his surgery. He had a fairly significant back surgery. It’s his second in 18 months, and something we only chose to do after many tests and consultations. But it was necessary to try to relieve increasing nerve pain in his feet and legs.

But Wizard never does anything the easy way, and during the surgery, he had the rare complication of developing a spinal fluid leak. Fortunately, the surgeon caught and repaired it before he closed up. Unfortunately that required Wizard to stay in the hospital for another day. He had to lay flat on his back for 24 hours (he couldn’t get up for any reason), with nurses assessing him every hour. He had a long, miserable night, but once the 24 hour period was up, they began sitting him up to see if the repair held. Youngest Son (BLB) and I were there, and we held our breath, waiting to see if he developed the telltale headache, vomiting or other signs of a spinal fluid leak. If the repair didn’t hold, they’d have to take him back into surgery.

But Wizard was symptom free (other than pain from the surgery). In another hour, they had him out of bed and walking with the aid of a walker. And a couple of hours after that, we were able to take him home. Whew! That was a huge relief! We are very grateful for the excellent medical care he received.

It’s a little crazy, though, Wizard is two for two on rare complications. First he had a rare complication on his eye surgery that required a second surgery, and now this on his back surgery that landed him in the hospital for another day.

This obviously proves me right when I saw Wizard is complicated! :-)

So what’s new with you guys? How’s your week been? Any plans for the weekend?

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Whew. I’m so glad Wizard made it through okay. :hugs:

Nothing much new over here. It’s my birfday. I’m four dozen today. I discovered yesterday that my biggest hollyhock fell over and I had to stake it up. Now I’m worried about my other ones, so I have to buy more stakes. I think I’ll make a joke about hunting vampires while I’m at the store. Should be good for a giggle. I got round 1 edits done last night. On to round 2, which should be way more detailed and time sucking. But I still have two weeks, so it’s all good. Nothing like an approaching deadline to light a fire under my butt. Heh.

Thank goodness!! Still sending good thoughts to all of you. Scary times but so happy he has a good doc and strong constitution. Y’all need some down time away from medical stuffs. **BIG HUGS**

Stuff here is normal. I’m stuck in a corner with Digger’s story. He or Shy will come out swinging soon and the story will move along. I’m in a reading/listening slump. Well, more of a listening. I have a book I want to read, but it’s slow because of my eyes. :-? There are a bunch of books coming out over the next few months so I’m hording my Audible credits but I’m not having much look finding Audible Romance or library audio books. :-| I know. I’m just a big ol’ whiner. ;)

LG’s American Legion post is doing a pancake breakfast tomorrow. We’re going to the post tonight to fry up all the bacon and sausage so that’s done and it’s just a matter of tossing it in the microwave to warm up. There’s a chance of rain so they aren’t sure how many will actually show up. There’s also some sort of craft show going on tomorrow afternoon. Fun times.

And I’m stalling. I really need to find a window to open, or a trap door to spring to get this story moving. More coffee and then words! Have a great weekend, everyone.

B.E., thanks! I’m glad Wizard made it through ok too. He’ll be fine, and hopefully, this is the end of surgeries for him.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope you’re celebrating! You deserve it!

LOL on the vampire jokes. I wouldn’t be able to resist cracking a few of those if I was buying stakes too.

Deadlines are very motivating! Good luck, hope you get it all done.

    Have a great weekend!

Silver, I know on the medical stuff! Wizard should be done now. He sure doesn’t want any more surgeries. Chances are that the nerve damage on his life side is somewhat permanent, but if he can get 50 to 75% relief, it’ll be worth it.

Hope you have a big breakthrough on Digger’s story, but what’s going on with your eyes? Are you having more problems? I’d really like to know!

It’s wonderful of you to help get the American Legion breakfast prepared.

Hope Digger cooperates, you guys have fun at the breakfast and have a great weekend!

Poor Wizard and poor you and BLB worrying about Wizard. That must have been a tough day and night at the hospital for all of you. So glad he was able to go home Thursday.

How are you two managing at home? Is Maggie devoted to her “dad” while he’s laid up? I bet she’s very concerned. I wish Wizard a rapid recovery.

Middle son and fiance will be married by the end of the weekend. Have no idea when since his buddy is marrying them and it is revolving around the friends schedule with his little girl (he only gets her one weekend a month and this is that weekend). The kids will take off for CO next Friday for their honeymoon.

My best friend’s daughter is getting married in July and he shower is Sunday. It should be tons of fun :). They’re from England and are totally goofy fun :).

I hope your weekend is great!

Viki, yeah, it wasn’t fun to see him in the hospital like that. Fortunately BLB spent the night with me, and stayed until we got his dad home and settled. Everything turned out ok, so we’re just happy with that.

Maggie checks on Wizard some, but she’s nothing like Bailey used to be. He’d lay by Wizard and ‘watch over’ him when he was sick. Maggie’s more a mommy’s girl.

Huge congrats to your middle son and his finance! I hope they get lots of pictures to share with you. If I remember right, they chose to do a planned elopement to keep the wedding simple, right? It’s a smart way to do it! I hope they have a wonderful time in Colorado!

Hope the shower is a blast! I’m wondering if they are originally from England, or over her from England for their daughter’s wedding shower?

Hope your son’s wedding and your friend’s daughter’s baby shower comes out exactly as the two brides (and your son!) want! Have a great weekend!
