Friday Five, Late Edition
TGIF! Now let’s get to sharing five random things about our week.
- I expect the blog to be quiet today, but for anyone who heard about the earthquake in Southern California, we’re fine. The epicenter of the quake was something like 100 miles from us. We felt the quake for sure, but we’re fine. My concern is for those close to the center, and we’re all aware that another, bigger one could come. Fun Fact: A part of the San Andreas fault line runs right through my city
- Wizard and I had a great 4th of July day with drinks in the jacuzzi, ribs for dinner and peach pie for dessert.
- 4th of July night, however, was like living too close to war zone. I have never actually been in a war zone, but this is what I imagine it sounds like. I was on the couch with my trembling dog, and the massive booms were coming from out the front of my house in a half circle to the back. It looked like lightning flashing. Those were the ones that had my flinching, and clearly these are not the legally sold fireworks, but the dangerous ones. Maggie wouldn’t leave my side until I told her it was time for bed and she ran in her kennel. She was a very brave girl throughout the rest of the night. She stayed in her kennel with no crying, whining or barking, and she even ate her treat. I’m proud of her.
- We saw Turbo this week. He was a blast as always. Wizard and I were playing with him outside, and when we went for a little walk, the boy reached for both our hands. We both looked up at one another, feeling the love that transcends time: There were all the moments that our sons reached for our hands, and now in this moment, our grandson reached for out hands. That kind of love and trust is a priceless gift.
- I have a new TV stand! After two years of searching, I finally found one that we like and that fits into the awkward corner! We put it together and it’s all done. It’s not expensive or anything, it just makes us happy.
So that’s my five. I know it’s kind of a holiday weekend for most, but it you’re here and have time, I’d live to hear five random things about your week. Have a great weekend!

Awwww. Your #4 gave me all the feels. Poor Maggie. Boone’s the same way. Luckily, Jake doesn’t seem to mind. Yay for TV stands! And yeah, I always worry when I hear there’s been a quake until I can pinpoint where the epicenter is. Okay, my five.
1) We did the annual Bethany 4th of July parade. Our 94 year old WWII veteran was on the float blowing his kisses. We’re working on getting him named as the grand marshal next year.
2) Speaking of the parade, I was amazed at how many people stood up as they applauded, waved, and thanked us for our service. The Vietnam vet sitting next to me got choked up and I got teary-eyed.
3) LG is mostly moved into his new office space thought there’s a whole bunch of stuff here. We’re starting to look a little bit like horders. We need to start sorting, culling, and getting organized again. I’ll get right on that.
4) Loki is too cute. I keep catching LG (who is notorius for NOT like cats) standing there just watching kitten antics with a goofy expression on his face.
5) It finally got hot. It IS July so I shouldn’t complain but I’m not a big fan of hot weather. Tomorrow is pancake day and siren test. We’re hoping LG can join us for family Mexican lunch at our fave restaurant.
And that’s my five. Time to get in words because while they’re coming, they’re coming too slowly for deadlines. Have a great weekend!

1. I watched live reporting yesterday on the quake and made sure it wasn’t near you. Happy to hear that you’re okay with no damage. I really feel for those that were at the epicenter. Thank heaven no lives were lost.
2. Your 4th sounds wonderful. I am envious of that pie :).
3. Poor Maggie. I wish people would be a “little” considerate. Animals have such a hard time with all the noise and flashes. Sounds like she was a trooper.
4. Loving Turbo. I can easily picture him taking both of your hands. How sweet bringing back great memories.
5. Congratulations on the TV stand.
1a. Hubs is healing slowly from his oral surgery. He really has taken it slow which is so different from the past.
2a. Middle son and wife live downtown and their windows face the lake so they got to watch the Cleveland fireworks from their living room. He sent me some photos. It was beautiful and I’d say the best part was they were in the air-conditioning ;).
3a. It’s been so hot and humid here. My windows are all covered in condensation until around 11 am every morning. It’s just yucky. If you go outside you feel like you never showered :(.
4a. Hubs and I are supposed to go to NY tomorrow for my cousins son’s graduation party. If hubs doesn’t feel better I don’t think we’ll make the 4 hour there and 4 hour back trip.
5a. Spunk seems to be doing better the past 4 or 5 days. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Have a really great weekend!

Silver, poor Boone. Maggie is medium scared, allowing me to keep her controlled, but some dogs will hurt themselves in terror. I don’t think Boone’s that bad, if I remember right, he likes to hide. And happy to share the feels on Turbo
1) That would be amazing for him to be grand marshal next year!
2) That’s wonderful!
3) Stuff can pile up so fast! But with a book deadline, you can’t worry about it right now!
4) Loki is obviously tugging on his heartstrings and funny bone.
5) I’m with you on the heat, we’re in a not-too-hot spell and I’m happy with that.
Hope you all have a great pancake breakfast/siren test, and that LG can join you for the family lunch!

Viki, it’s a small miracle no one was killed, and I’m really thankful. The pie was pretty good for using frozen peaches. At least Maggie was safe, so many animals accidentally get away from owners, or out of yards, and get hurt. Thanks on Turbo and the TV stand.
1) Hubs is being smart! Oral surgery is so painful (generally speaking). I’m sorry the healing is slow.
2) Wow, that sounds like Middle Son and wife had a front row seat to an amazing show! Sort of like a VIP suite I love safe fireworks!
3) I feel for you guys having that kind of humidity. I’d be whining and complaining non stop.
4) I also feel for you guys on your cousin’s graduation. It’s probably too long a trip for hubs right now. I’m sorry you may have to miss it.
5) I’m so happy to hear Spunk appears to be doing better! It’s so worrisome when our pets can’t tell us if something is really wrong or not.
I hope hubs starts feeling much better soon and you both have a nice weekend!
