Weekend Roundup

I clearly have a big mouth. Just because I indicated on Friday’s blog that life has slowed the insane pace enough to be more manageable–the new garage door opener stopped working after two months. Wizard knew pretty quick why–they don’t make many openers for the older non-roll up doors, at least not ones we can get shipped to California.

When it comes to regulations, California is on drugs. This probably sounds blasphemous (sorry!), but California looked at God’s 10 Commandments and said, “Amateur. Somebody hold my GCB, non-fat, non-GMO, non-discriminatory, non-peanut-allergy, latte heated by solar energy, served in my environmentally-friendly cup with a fully degradable sippy straw, and watch this.  I will make a thousand commandments of stupidity in a single day. We shall create a no- business-can-survive economy, where the only product easily available is cannabis to ease the stress of life being impossible when you can’t buy and sell anything.

But…umm…perhaps I got off topic?

So we bought the expensive garage door opener that supposedly worked with the old style doors. I knew full well there was only a 50-50 chance of it working, particularly with a two car-garage door that’s been slightly warped by time. But while I mentioned that to Wizard, I could also see he was trying to solve the problem without spend a painful amount of money on new doors (we have a three car garage). Saturday, Wizard hooked it up, pressed the button and OMG, have you ever seen a metal railings push up and twist? I screamed, “Stop!” He did, but it had twisted enough that…well long story short (Ha! Too late for that!), we’re going to get estimates this week for the roll up doors. And just be grateful California allows us to buy roll up doors, instead of hanging a plant-based, gender-neutral tarp rescued from a garbage dump and in need of a forever home over the garage opening.

Oops, is my sarcasm showing?

But the rest of the weekend was good. We went to Special K’s for her birthday. It was a nice evening, and she went to a lot work cooking ribs for her own birthday :-)

Yesterday, I dropped by Youngest Son and Fiance’s house in the afternoon. They’ve painted everything inside of their house except the bedrooms,  and put up pictures. They’ve worked so hard making their house into a home, and I love seeing how happy they are after waiting years to start their life together. Their wedding is just a few weeks away.

So that was the rambling version of my weekend :-) How was your weekend?

I am so sorry about your garage door troubles, but ROFL at the way you told it. I shake my head almost daily at some of the things I’m seeing out of CA. There’s always room for you in MO. As long as you stay away from the cities, life’s pretty free here.

Yay for Special K’s birthday! And yay for BLB and his fiancee!

As you saw on FB, I made Romanian Apple Cake yesterday. So good. Other than that, it was a quiet weekend. Except for the two brothers working on the oldest’s new home project on the lot to our north. All weekend, they were clearing stuff and measuring stuff and getting ready to pour footers for the foundation. It’s nice to see hard-working folks doing productive stuffs. It’ll be noisy once they actually start work on the structure, but we’ll live with it. And the weather, once the rain stopped, turned gorgeous. Good walking weather that I took full advantage of. =o)

    🤣🤣🤣🤣
Yes. And that’s why I probably won’t ever be back to California which is sad because there’s a couple of California things on my bucket list. Between the taxes and the resitrictions? I’d be fleeing. Pack of the whole extended family and move to the middle. We have cookies. And low taxes. And business friendly laws. Just sayin’.

We had cold weather and the early game of soccer. Only 3 kids showed up from the team of 8 or 9. One was one of the twins who has the attention span of a gnat and is attached to her twin at the hip. The other twin was home sick. The 3rd member of the team was a little Vietnamese boy who is enamored of his special chair. Mom got smart this week and didn’t bring it. There was one poing in the game when Liam was the only one on the field for his team. I get that the kids are only 5 but parents? If you make the commitment, you need to get your kids there to play! *climbs off soapbox

Other than that, I hid all weekend. Hoping this week helps with that. Anyway, thanks for the big giggle this morning. I needed it! 😍

As you have probably guessed over the years, I think CA is insane. Honestly, I don’t understand how intelligent people can live there with the morons getting into office that make these laws and restrictions. I feel for you. It’s just crazy.

Man that stinks with the garage door breaking. They are very expensive to replace so I have my fingers crossed that all works out well and you don’t have to hang a vegan tarp ;).

That’s wonderful how BLB and soon to be DIL have really made the house a home already. They’ve really worked hard.

I bet Special K’s birthday was fun. Did Turbo have the best time :)?

Harrison’s party was fun. The kid is so happy all the time. The big boy bed did not get him to stay in his own bed all night. I don’t know how his parents function having a kid in bed with them EVERY night.

Middle son and DIL’s kitty, Muffin, seems to be coming around. She had 4 IV’s, ultra sounds, X-ray’s, blood work, you name it. They have her on an appetite boost and pain killers. They also changed her diet to strictly duck.

I hope you have a great afternoon and no “hold my GCB, non-fat, non-GMO, non-discriminatory, non-peanut-allergy, latte heated by solar energy, served in my environmentally-friendly cup with a fully degradable sippy straw” (copied from you ;) ) people ruin your day.

B.E., thanks for the invite, LOL! I doubt I’ll be leaving CA anytime soon.

So far we have two quotes on the doors, and trying to sort out fact from fiction :-)

I’ve never made apple cake, it sounded intriguing.

    Yay for gorgeous weather!

While there will be drawbacks like noise and dirt, it’s going to be fun to watch the house being built. I’d be so curious about the floorplan and all kinds of details because I’m nosy like that.

    Happy Monday!

Silver, would it surprise you to find out I love CA? I want to slap the stupid out, but I love the state and the people I know here at the same time :-)

I’m sorry about the soccer game. I’m not expecting much from five year olds, but showing up is definitely the least parents can do. I showed up with my kids to soccer, baseball and Taekwondo so my kids would learn to show up later in life for things like their jobs, appointments and commitments. Poor Stormy must have been sad.

You’re welcome for the giggle. I try to not post anything politically slanted, but honestly, it’s just silliness gone wild here sometimes.

I hope you get a lot done this week!

Viki, I think most people living outside the state feel that way, and it’s totally understandable with what gets reported in the media or viewed in shows like the The Kardashians. I just keep fighting for the state, and the people in it, that I care about :-) But there’s some definite, eye-blinking, WTH, stuff going on.

We’re getting quotes on the doors. Not fun, but home repairs are just part of life.

Turbo was tired from an unfortunately abbreviated nap. But it was still fun, and the next day, he bounced right back.

Yay for Harrison having a great time at his party, and a happy attitude all around! He’s obviously a well-loved little boy :-) Maybe over time, he’ll start sleeping in his own bed.

That’s a relief for Muffin! I’m guess she’s not totally out of the woods yet, but headed in the right direction. And ouch on all the x-rays, blood work, etc. That all adds up $$ on top of all the worry.

And LOL! I was so ticked, and fed up when I wrote this blog, but I’m over it and won’t let them ruin my day. I hope you have a good evening!
