Weekend Roundup

It was an okay weekend.  Not much to talk about. I got my mammogram done on Friday and that ended the week packed with appointments :-)  This weekend I did a cake for my brother-in-law, but I wasn’t real happy with it. He, however, was very gracious and seemed pleased and that’s what counts.  I’m not showing it because it has his name on it, and I’m not sure he’s comfortable with that.

And on a related note: Someone in my town posted that they were looking for a cake decorator who can make a “simple” dragon cake for their kid. I was tempted for two seconds before I recovered my sanity. First, I don’t WANT to do this as a business, it’s a hobby and nothing more. Second, I not good enough (I’m not insulting myself, I just need more experience). And third, I would stress myself sick. Better that I stick to doing cakes for fun, family and friends, or even someday entering contests for kicks. But I really don’t want someone relying on me not to screw up their event!

My other claim to fame this weekend is that I cleaned out my close and drawers. I through out a sizable bag of clothes–much of it old things that I loved and hung onto even thought the really don’t fit anymore. I’m pretty proud of myself for that! Otherwise, I ran errands, did a little cleaning and am struggling with my vision. It’s nothing to worry about, just my vision getting a little worse, which we knew at my last eye exam. I just couldn’t tolerate the new prescription in contacts, so that’s been a whole thing.  Then add in some sinus/allergies causing blurriness and the world goes out of focus :-) So I didn’t try to write.

I may start looking into Lasik to see if we can get my vision to at least something more easily corrected with glasses. But I’m a little leery of that. If anyone has  personal Lasik experience they’d like to share, I’d love to hear it.

That was my boring weekend, how was yours?

But your dragon cake was adorable! But yeah, totally get your reticence. Yay on being done with doctors, boo on the eyes (I feel that pain!) and woohoo on the cleaining. I totally need to get back to doing that.

My weekend was totally boring. I took a social media break (from my own media) last week and am sort of exteneding it. Between the cataract and the old glasses (don’t want to spend the money on optomitrist and new glasses until the cataract situation is rosolved because that necessitates another new prescription) so I’m struggling by. It’s put a real crimp in working but whatever.

OSU lost. OU won. It’s Braves and Astros in the World Serious. Go Braves! (I always root for the NL team. LOL)

October is almost over. How did that happen? *flail*

I listened to some books. I tried to nap. The back is better though still twinges if I sit too long, step wrong, or try to get out of bed. I’m up so I fight through that every morning.

It’s Monday. Wallyworld is on the agenda, once it gets light outside.

Did I mention my life is boring?

    Have an awesome week, everyone!

I couldn’t talk Dennis into LASIK, but he did get cataract surgery. He freely admits that he wished he had don’t corrective eye surgery years ago. He has to wear 1X cheaters to read or work at the computer.

Granted his vision was truly horrible before the surgery. Without his contacts he couldn’t see three inchs in front of his face.

He loves being able to get out of bed and not have to stumble around before putting in his contacts.

    If you’re a candidate for LASIK—do it.

I think your dragon cake would have been really cute but you would stress yourself out so bad if you took on the project. Not worth messing with your health.

I switched out all my warm weather clothes for cold weather and filled a bag for Easter Seals. I’m still holding on to too much that I don’t really wear but won’t let go of. How strange we can be.

I cannot offer any info on Lasik. Even if I needed and could have it I most likely wouldn’t because I freak when things come at my eyes. I hope you get some great advice.

I’m about to roast a pork loin but I’m worried about the smell of it. I just bought it and it’s supposed to be fine until Oct 31. Hubs doesn’t smell anything so I hope all is okay. If I’m sick on Wednesday we’ll know it was bad :).

    Have a fantastic day!

Silver, After Wizard saw the post, he tried to talk me into doing it too, LOL! I told him the same thing–nope.

Social media breaks are a good thing for everyone’s mental health.

Really sorry about the cataracts and hope you can get that corrected soon. But you’re smart to hold off on a new glasses prescription since it will change after the surgery.

I’m with you on wondering how October is almost over.

I’m sorry your back is still twinging here and there. It sucks when it hurts just to get out of bed (more than just the getting moving aches, I mean).

Hope you got Walmart done quick and efficient, which as little pain to your finance as possible :-)

    Happy Monday!

Marianne, I’m leery too, but the frustration of not being able to see if beginning to outweigh the fear :-) I’m both far and near sighted, so I’ll have to make myself do a consultation to figure out if and what I’m a candidate for.

I was in a store this weekend, couldn’t read anything, and was getting slightly freaked, so it’s time to check into it.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Viki, I’d definitely stress since I don’t trust my skills yet. I really do need to just keep practicing and learning.

How funny we both did a similar thing this weekend, although I don’t “switch” wardrobes since Southing California doesn’t have truly cold weather like you do.

I’m squeamish about my eyes too. But being able to see is a nice perk to have in life :-)

I hope the roast is okay and you all enjoy it. I will tell you I’m ridiculously sensitive to the smell of pork (so is my sister), and always think even pork chops smell off. Wizard always tells me they’re fine; I cook them, he eats them and is still here to brag about it :-)

Hope to “see” you here healthy and happy on Wednesday!

I thought the dragon cake you posted was cute. I bet your brother wasn’t just being gracious. But yeah, I totally get it. Maybe if you see something like that again, you can offer to do it for just the cost of ingredients, so they get a cake and you get experience. Jus’ sayin’. Yay for cleaning out your clothes! It’s kind of a freeing thing. Out with the old clothes and out with the idea hanging over your head that someday they’ll be wearable again. Who needs that baggage, eh? Bummer about your eyes. Getting older blows.

The weekend here was more log throwing. I also made granola bars and then I made a coffee cake. And I found a book from my teens I’d been keeping my eyes out for, which gave me a happy. I’m reading it now. Yay. Other than that, nothing much happened.

B.E, that’s exactly what Wizard suggested–do it for cost of ingredients or free :-) And yeah, it feels good to let go of the old stuff. Certain parts of getting older definitely blows, but not everything. Sure things wear out, but life has also taught me some wisdom.

I couldn’t throw logs, so kudos to you! I always tell myself I’m going to make granola bars like you do, then I never do it. So I’ll live through you! Yay for the book! I think I saw that on your FB. Hope you’re enjoying the reading the book!
