Friday Five

TGIF! Hope 2022 is going well for you! Okay let’s jump into sharing five random things about our week.

  1. No sign of the gopher’s return as of yet. Maggie is on the job!
  2. Turbo’s home from school all week with a virus. He was tested for Covid  as a precaution in Urgent Care over the weekend and  it came back negative. It’s just a run of the mill virus, but the preschool has very strict rules for good reason these days so it’s best if he stays home until next week.  Anyway, yesterday Wizard and I tagged-teamed babysitting him. I went out and took first shift, then Wizard arrived for second shift in the afternoon to relieve me. Our son and daughter-in-law were so appreciative, which is nice but we don’t mind helping out. Of course, they wouldn’t let us help until the Covid test came back negative. I totally understand that, and yet, I felt bad for them–they are both trying to work high pressure jobs from home with a toddler.
  3. There was no traffic yesterday. It was really freaky. I knew Covid was really bad in CA again, but I left here at 8am and should have been in gridlock.  I’ve done this enough time to know that. Instead, there was light traffic and I made it to their house in record time. Our state has not shut down, but a ton of companies and government offices have been forced to close due to so many people being sick.
  4. I bought some cake dummies–they are Styrofoam rounds that I can cover in fondant and practice on. I’m looking forward to trying a few things with my airbrush. These dummies let me practice decorating with much less waste as I can reuse them.
  5. Through sheer determination, I got my food processor at the price I wished to pay. Yay. Then I got it home, tried it and washed it all up and….it didn’t fit in the cupboard, LOL. Sometimes, the best laid plans are thwarted by something we don’t think about. In this case, there’s a central pole that stays on the base and it never occurred to me it’d make it too tall to go in the designated cupboard. But it’s all good, I found it another spot and now I have my food processor when I need it.

So that’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! Have a great weekend!

Yay, Guard Dog Maggie (GDM)! Aww, poor Turbo and Witch and Wizard to the rescue! That lack of traffic would be weird. I can’t imagine Cali without it. Ooh! Practice rounds. That makes sense. Best laid plans, but yay for the new food processor. Okay, my five.

    1. LG had to go pick up Stormy from school because he had a stomach ache. When he got here, he wanted Buffalo Wing Cheez-Its. Then he wanted a ham sammich, with more Cheez-Its. That was followed by cherry yogurt. He played and watched Mythbusters until his dad got here after baseball practice. All the sudden, Stormy’s tummy hurt again. Seriously? He’s coming Saturday to spend the night so his parents can celebrate their anniversary at a local B&B.

    2. I made waffles for dinner last night. They were totally yummy but there was a bit of chaos in the making. I reached up into the cabinet for the baking powder but had to pull the cornstarch out to get to it. The lid wasn’t completely on the cornstarch. And I was holding it by the lid. Luckily, I hadn’t peeled the inner seal completely off so cornstarch only went “where” instead of EVERYwhere. I still had some in my hair last night. 🤣

    3. My office de-clutter has been more by accident than intent this week. Boone’s “appropriation” of one of Only’s stuffies precipitated clearning a corner bookscase. Looking for some insurance paperwork led to sorting, tossing, refiling and clearing my desk inbox and one file drawer. Progress! Now I just need to do stuff…you know…on purpose. 🙄

    4. I want a new hand-held mixer. Which is weird because I seldom use the one tucked back in a kitchen utential drawer. It’s only like 20+ years old so it may not even work. I just drag out the Kitchenaid stand mixer. We gave Baseball Boy (he’s the cook in their family) a new one for Christmas and I thought to myself, “Self, this model has an awesome variety of beaters. We should get one.” I keep forgetting to add it to my grocery list so I don’t go by that aisle to see if it’s been restocked. Note to self: Add it to the grocery list!

    5. And speaking of grocery lists, I lost mine Tuesday. I marked three items off and somewhere between the 3rd and the 4th, I lost the list AND my pen. 😟 I tried to recreate it from memory but yeah. So, this week, I’ve been adding the things I forget as I come across the need for the things I forgot. Don’t get old! 🤣

On that note, have a great weekend, Witches! Be safe, warm, and healthy! 🥰

    1. Good thing Maggie is on the job keeping that gopher away ;).
    2. Poor Turbo. I really feel for these little guys having to take the antigen test. Adults hate it so I can’t imagine how hard it is on the little ones. Harrison has had two of them – yikes. It’s fantastic that you and Wizard were able to tag team watch Turbo. Grandparents are the best!
    3. Makes sense with the surge in covid cases that more people are positive so working from home again. Makes traffic so much nicer.
    4. Great idea on the cake practice molds. It will keep you from having 1. to bake all the time and 2. have to eat the cakes (which I’d gladly do) and 3. buy new clothes to off set the cake eating ha ha.
    5. I’m glad you finally were able to get the food processer. I am sorry it doesn’t fit where you wanted it to go but you did find a spot :).

1a. It’s been very cold here. Lows in the lower teens and highs around 20. This morning while out running errands the snow was falling super heavy. The good thing was it was light weight snow (not packing snow). We have a few inches.
2a. Hubs is taking me out for dinner tomorrow 😊. I am so looking forward to being taken care of.
3a. Youngest’s girlfriend got Covid from work. He’s been locked down until he can get a test and proves he’s neg. I gave him my second one but the swab wasn’t on a flat surface and the antigen flowed too quickly nullifying the test. If he has no symptoms on Monday and gets a test he can go back to work. His boss is very worried and wants a test no matter what.
4a. Christmas is packed up for another year.
5a. Spunk loves his Christmas tree and is now VERY unhappy. He is so funny how he guards the thing.

I hope you have a really great weekend!

Silver, So Cal is famous for traffic, lol. It was pretty unreal. And at least Turbo’s feeling mostly okay and in a good mood, so the rest is all workable with everyone pitching in :-) Same as you do for Stormy!

    1) I’m always suspicious of convenient stomach aches. I really do hope it wasn’t a virus though–those are never fun.
    2) I’m not laughing. But I may have snorted because been there and done that. Still, it could have been way worse if you hadn’t still had that liner on it. Cornstarch, flour and powdered sugar all all so fine, then puff into an explosion of white powder that travels great and far.
    3) Boone sounds like he may have been motivating you :-) Such a good boy, LOL. But it still counts! You’re keeping to your goal!
    4) A good handmixer is one of those tools that you’ll miss it desperately when you need it. Put it on your list! The food processor is a convenience item I got because I had extra cash saved, but a hand mixer is more necessary. you’ll be so sad if you go to use yours and it’s not working or losing power.
    5) I can forget things ON my list in front of my face, LOL. Getting old isn’t for the weak, that’s all I’m gonna say :-)

Have a great weekend and overnight visit with Stormy! Happy Anniversary to Only and BB!

Viki, Turbo was tested at the doctors, so they likely did the more accurate PCR test. Covid is just part of our reality now. On the upside, Turbo had a present for me, he (and his mom) bought a little flower Lego set. Turbo and I built it, then he sent it home with me. It was the sweetest thing ever.

    1) Wow that doesn’t sound fun to do errands in falling snow. Glad you got home safely. i image it’s like when it rains here–you probably don’t worry about YOUR driving but about others who are more reckless or not used to it and lose control of their vehicles and can hit you.
    2) I hope you and hubs have a fabulous night out! You deserve it after all the cooking and cleaning through the holidays.
    3) I’m so sorry his girlfriend is sick and hope she recovers with no problems. It’s so hard to get tests right now. No home tests are available here that I can find, and it’s a long wait for a PCR one. I really hope he doesn’t get sick.
    4) Bet that feels good to get Christmas put away and the house back to normal for the year.
    5) Oh poor Spunk! He misses his tree.

Enjoy your dinner out and hope the whole weekend is great!
