Friday Five

TGIF! It’s time to share five random things about our week!

  1. Monday we did an online meeting about any electrical upgrades. That began with technical glitches which is pretty funny since they’re offering technical upgrades :-) Some of the offered upgrades had my budget in hysterical laughter. Or is that hysterical tears??? We said “No thank you” a lot!
  2. We had another heat wave, and a fire broke out in the Cleveland National Forest. I’ll post a picture from our street below. For a few hours we were worried, but some major air power came in and moved it back. The fire is still burning and last I heard 15% contained. I expect it to be more when this posts. However it’s burned over 550 acres. Today should be cooler with a chance of rain which is great news.
  3. Thursday morning I was doing light chores like dusting and laundry, then I walked into the kitchen I got a sudden pain in my right side. I pulled something in my oblique muscles between my hip and ribcage, I think. Seriously? Twisting side stretches don’t do it. Brutal side planks don’t do it.  Even cleaning the bathrooms doesn’t do it. But walking into the kitchen and turning to the counter??? Yep, wrenched my side.  Someone out there has a sense of humor, LOL.  It’s not serious, just annoying, and Advil helps :-)
  4. Today we have to go back to the design center which is at least an hour away depending on traffic. We originally chose a beautiful quartz countertop that I really love. But after a couple days Wizard and I began worrying that it’s not going to be durable enough. Quartz and granite both have their pluses and minuses, but after re-weighting them we’re probably going to get granite. So we’re going back to look and decide. You know, this process would be a lot more fun if only that Budget Witch and her ugly cousin, Financial Reality, didn’t keep butting in. :-)  (I’m teasing, not complaining. I spend too much time each day following the Ukraine situation to have any reason to truly complain about my life.)
  5. Tomorrow we’re back in the car for another long trip to go to a memorial service for one of Wizard’s friends (she passed two months ago). It’ll be a long day but an important one. She brought a lot of joy to people’s lives and we want to celebrate her life.

That’s in for me, now I’d love to hear your five! I hope everyone has a good weekend.

I was just about finished with my comment – commenting on your things and typing the last bit on mine – when I hit a wrong key and it closed my browser. All my awesome wittiness… gone in an instant. Yep, it’s gonna be one of those days. I’ll rebuild it, but it won’t be as witty.

Yay for new home stuff. Boo for scary fires. Bummer about the pulled muscle – I do that often myself. So sorry to hear about Wizard’s friend. Stay safe on your travels out there. :hugs:

    1) The book I’ve been slaving over for over a month is off to betas. One’s already finished. She said she couldn’t put it down. So it has that going for it.
    2) All the plants I took out of my front garden a while back are now back in the ground. Here’s hoping they’re dormant and not dead.
    3) I read a whole book someone else wrote for the first time since I began the edit round. It wasn’t great, but I finished it. Then I DNF’d 3 in a row. The next book I picked up is turning out to be pretty cool, so it’s all good.
    4) I thought I’d treat myself to some retail therapy at the thrift store and get some new old books, but they’d jacked the price on their old books. I did walk out of there with a metal baseball bat ($2) and a pretty wall sculpture of geese in flight ($3).
    5) The baseball bat is for home protection. The thought of hearing it ping as I wallop any schmuck who tries to break into my house makes me grin. Yes, I am demented.

B.E., I HATE when that happens. And I’ve managed to blank comments a lot. 🤦🏼‍♀️ Jen, yay on the good stuff, scary on the fire, sad on the friend, and we won’t discuss weird physical ailments except they are real! Okay, my five:

    1. I had a birthday. It was a milestone, but one that a person of my age finds hysterical funny for the…uhm…sexual implications.

    2. I got a cardboard paper cut at Wallyworld on Monday. Those suckers HURT!!! I finally took the bandage off last night because it totally messed up my typing.

    3. In other physical ailments, I got food poisoning. Opposable thumbs are great as long as they…you know…work without pain. 🤣 (The arthritis in the lower joints of my left thumb flared. Ouch!)

    4. Stormy and his Big Daddy got bonding time yesterday. LG picked him up after school, they wend to get a snack, and then headed to meet Baseball Boy at his game, played against LG’s HS alma mater.

    5. Only was working on a project involving a big client, hence LG’s call to duty. Big hospital had a groundbreaking on a $200 million heart facility and they asked the media company she works for her, specifically, to photograph the event. (She’d been called in awhile ago to do headshots when all the usual photogs were busy and her supervisor discovered Only is a hellava photographer. Now they ask for her a lot.) Anyway, one of the local TV stations livestreamed the event and we got to see her briefly and then heard her giving instructions on the “dig” as she took the posed pictures. She had to sort through all the photos, make selections, set them up and “fix” and get them back. She’s good. And one of the pics was put up on their website within a few hours. Yeah, we’re proud.

My week pretty much sucked but luckily, I have family that does cool stuff. 🤣🤣🤣 Have a great weekend, witches! 🥰

    1. Wow, the meeting began with a glitch. Crazy. I can just imagine what some of those Upgrades were. No, Thank You 😉.
    2. I’ve been keeping an eye on that nasty fire. So happy to know that you guys are okay.
    3. These weird pulls/strains are so annoying. And like you stated, they happen from doing the most mundane activities. Glad the Advil is helping.
    4. Granite is a good choice especially with all the work you do in the kitchen. What color are you going for? Oh, those cousins can be such buggers. (Agree on Ukraine. 😥).
    5. I hope you got and gave comfort going to the memorial. People that have blessed us need to be celebrated.

1a. My bestie is up from Florida. We’re meeting for coffee tomorrow and her daughter’s baby shower is Sunday.
2a. Youngest loved the house he saw on Wed. only around here they ask lower than the assessment but expect $100K more. So there is a time line for all bids to come in and the seller picks from there. Needless to say, this isn’t a house he can afford. He’s looking at another one tonight.
3a. Harrison and family are off to TN again tomorrow to buy a house.
4a. My machine has another part to be replaced but can be used. Bad thing is, I can’t get through my old workout. Ten days off weakened me.
5a. I have to make Spunk’s yearly vet appointment. Telling you may actually help me remember to do it 😄.

    Have a great weekend!

B.E., I hate when that happens! Vanishing comments are always the wittiest ones :-)

    1) Double awesomeness on finishing the edits and getting such amazing feedback from one of your betas! All your hard work is paying off.
    2) Replanting is hard work, sure hope the plants rally.
    3) Yay for reading! I just DNFed 3 in a row too, but a lot of it is just me these days.
    4) Nice haul but sorry the books were overpriced.
    5) I wondered what the metal baseball bat was for, LOL. It’s a good plan. Note to self–get a metal baseball bat!

    Enjoy your non-editing weekend!

Silver, the fire was scary, but at least we didn’t have Santa Ana winds and the weather cooled, so I’m grateful.

    1) LOLOL!! Um…I’ll leave that one alone.
    2) Those do hurt! So sorry.
    3) Whoa, food poisoning? That’s horrible. Arthritis is bad too. I hope you’re able to find something to help.
    4) I bet Stormy loved spending time with Grandpa :-)
    5) Wow you have every right to be proud! Only is making a name for herself with her photography. I’m so happy for her! She’s truly worked for the success and recognition she achieving now.

Hope your weekend is much better than your week!

Viki, right now we’re going with blue galaxy granite with white cabinets. I’m happy with the choice. But when the time comes, we will go to look at the actual slab and we can make changes as long as we stay at the same level (two levels up from the standard choice). And your right, it’s the better choice. I feel pretty good about it. But dang the time we’re putting into this is crazy and they haven’t even started our house yet. Oh and last tonight, the side pull isn’t too bad. I was able to do a light and careful yoga. Yesterday it hurt a lot worse.

    1) It’s a bestie weekend! You’ll have a great time catching up at coffee and celebrating the new baby at the shower! Best wishes to the new mom.
    2) Well darn. And yeah, I know about the wild bidding on houses. I hope he can find one that works for his budget. This market is totally unfair to first time buyers. But if he keeps looking, it will happen.
    3) Congrats to oldest and his family on buying a house! I hope it all goes smoothly for them. So they’re moving to Tennessee?
    4) I’m sorry for all the issues you’re having with the machine :-( But you’ll get back up to your normal workout soon. It’s frustrating to feel like you’re falling behind, but that’s pretty normal. We just have to pace ourselves a little bit more these days (I’m bitter about that, LOL)
    5) Okay I’m mentally reminding you to make Spunks well check appointment :-) I’m pretty sure Spunk wont remind you, LOL.

I hope you have a great weekend with your best friend and at the baby shower!
