House Klutz

Me, I’m the House Klutz!

So the other night, I turned the light off, and went to get into bed. But I somehow tripped into the nightstand and now have a pretty awesome bruise on my knee. Normally I leave the bathroom light on and turn that off last since it’s two steps from my bed. That night I did it in opposite order. I wasn’t thinking, I guess. Or more likely, I was thinking about something else and not paying attention. Even so, I still have no idea how I so badly miscalculated where I was in the room and walked straight into the nightstand instead of stopping at my bed. I spent the next twenty minutes icing my knee before re-attempting the tricky feat of getting into bed :-)

I can pretty much guarantee I won’t do that again, LOL!

Then yesterday I was washing the floors, and slammed my right hand into the granite countertop. It felt like punching stone! But at least for that klutzy move, I can use the excuse that I’m haven’t developed a mental map in my head of how far the countertop overhang is. My hand is fine, just one joint and my wrist are mildly sore, but not bad enough to slow me down any :-)

Those are just the two bigger ones. I’ve been bumping into stuff here and there as I’m getting used to the new house (plus unpacking and moving stuff around). My legs are so marked up, I wore pants when I went out to lunch over the weekend with my sister :-) I’m now referring to myself as the House Klutz!

Anyone else injury prone in new spaces, or is it just me???

Heck, I’m injury prone in old spaces, too. New spaces just make it worse. We won’t talk about the number of bruises I have this week. But hey, I haven’t fallen since the beginning of the year. :knocks on wood: Wait, scratch that. Last month, I went to sit down and my office chair decided to roll out from under me, so I ended up on the floor.

I’m glad your House Klutz activities didn’t result in anything worse than bruises. (Mine, too. Thank goodness.) I think we both need bubble wrap jumpsuits. :HUGS:

OUCH!!! I hate when that happens. And yeah, it takes awhile to figure out where stuff is and y’all are in a constant state of flux right now. Beware, it’ll happen again as you start to replace furniture because different shapes and sizes!

I can walk through the house and collect bruises without remembering what I hit to get the bruise. Derp. 🤓 We’ve lived here 26 years and I still catch doorknobs and bang my hand or forearm as I pass by. Then there’s dodging Boone, tripping over Boone, and getting pushed by Boone when he’s in his old-timer’s headspace. He tends to walk up right behind us and when we turn around and bump into him, it is truly an OH $H!+ moment!

Hang in there and glad it’s only bruises and little soreness–if it has to happen at all. Maybe we should all form a Klutz Anonymous support group. 🤣 Happy Hump Day, all!

Ouch! Your poor knee and hand. It’s hard getting used to new surroundings. I have no helpful suggestions. Don’t be surprised if there are more bumps. Heck, I still get them and I’ve been in this house for 26 years. So I think we can all be Klutzes from time to time.

I’m glad you’re taking the bull by the horns with the ants. Once they get a hold on your house they are so hard to get rid of.

I really thought I’d be able to get tons of stuff done around the house with hubs gone but I’ve only been able to get through 1/2 so far. I did fill have the garbage can up with with junk from a closet.

I dread going through the closet Harrison’s dad stored stuff in. We have not touched his crap in all these years. I’ve decided that it’s all going. He hasn’t used any of it in 27 years and is in TN. So to the trash it is going to go.

I hope you are having a great afternoon.

B.E., roller chairs are famous for that! You can’t take the blame for that one :-)

It’s true, I too, often hurt myself in my old house too. But walking into the nightstand was new. I was so shocked, it took me a second to figure out what happened, LOL!

But bruises heal, right??? if we don’t break anything, it’s a win :-)

Silver, so true on new furniture! Maybe if I slow down and think about what I’m doing, I’ll be safer, LOL.

I’m with you on collecting bruises without knowing how. But I don’t have Boone, so you win on that one! Maggie can get underfoot, but she’s usually quick enough to move out of the way before anyone is hurt. Poor Boone, age is taking it’s toll on him. Hugs.

We should have a Klutz Antonymous support group!

Viki, I probably will get more, sigh. Like you, I collected enough in my old house and I’d been there 26 years too! But man, I have upped my game lately. still, they are minor and will heal. Just the knee is a little achy.

You are making progress even if it’s not what you’d hoped. I usually set my goals a little too high too :-)

I agree, toss Oldest son’s stuff stored at your house. We did that, or dropped it at their houses once they bought a home :-) Wizard and I stored it all through their college and transitional years, but there’s a limit, right?

Hope you get all that you want to done, safely and unbruised!!
