Weekend Roundup

Bleh. It was pretty much that kind of weekend.  Wizard is steadily recovering from his cold by sending it to me :-) My throat was the worst of it so far, but that seemed better yesterday. Otherwise, its just a cold. Sunday it rained and this week looks cold with some rain too. We need the rain so there’s that.

I tried to bake on Saturday and made a mess of it, LOL. Let’s just say that I shouldn’t bake while high on cold meds! It fogs my brain and wires me at the same time, so it’s not a good mix. The next day I cut the dose in half and felt better! Ultimately I did make some pumpkin bread and salted dark chocolate cookies. I have much more to do this week if I’m feeling up to it. If not…it’ll all be fine.

Next weekend we’re going to youngest’s house for a family Christmas. I’m bringing dessert and I still don’t know what I want to make. So many decision! I’d like to make a cake and a side dessert for variety but we’ll see.

Yesterday, I had to laugh. As I mentioned it rained and all my sons were clearly all bored. Youngest began texting around 8 in the morning. Then oldest called and middle called while I was still talking to oldest. I’m very popular when it’s raining and my sons have nothing else to do but call mom :-) I’m teasing, they are all great kids and call and visit when they can. But I do like to tease them.

Oldest called because Turbo’s birthday is in March, and he tells me twice a week about various cakes he wants :-) This week it’s been and  “ant” (as in the bug) cake and a “Hulk” cake. I have no idea where the ant cake came from! A hulk cake would be fun to make. We’ll see how many more times Turbo changes his mind in the next two and a half months.

Middle was talking about our house ( he thinks it’s big and really likes it!) and letting me know about a weird bug bite on his arm. He then acted like the successful adult he is and went to Urgent Care to get it treated before his busy work week ahead. Then he texted to let me know he’d done it so I wouldn’t worry. I really appreciate that!

Youngest just harasses me :-) I told him I had a cold, and he suggest I “drink some of dad’s Scotch to burn out the virus.”  I’m rather glad he didn’t choose medicine as a career. He also sends me cute picture of his dog Phoebe but I can’t go see her because I don’t want to spread my cold the them. That’s just mean.

Oh and the concrete and walls are delayed until after the holidays. Weather and other factors got in the way, and we’re not really surprised.

So how was your weekend?

Sorry to hear you caught the crud. Here’s hoping it leaves soon. :hugs: Yay for baking when you were clear-headed. Yay for Christmas at the Youngest’s. Yay for all your kids calling their mom. LOL about Turbo and his cake choices. Ugh, sorry to hear about Middle’s bug bite. I hope he got it cleared up. LOL, whiskey was my dad’s answer to medicine. Sorry your concrete work got delayed, but yeah, with all the rain you’re having, I’m not surprised either.

Another quiet weekend here. I made granola bars and then I made baked spaghetti, but other than that, it was reading and watching TV.

Ugh on the crud and muzzy head that goes with cold meds. Yay for bored kids. Only often calls me on her way home from work and narrates her commute. Turbo is too cute and if he’s still into ants, you can cover his real cake with them in icing. Suspicious bug bites are suspicious. Good for Middle. Yay for rain but boo for having to wait on the wall and concrete work. My dad’s answer was a hot toddy of whiskey, honey, and lemon juice. Works wonders. You drink it and sleep away the day. And yay for sweet Phoebe. I learned on the news this morning that dogs can get a canine variety of influenza. Who knew!

Weekend. There was one. It’s been chilly, rainy (which we also need!) and mostly quiet. I got most of my Christmas shopping done–on-line, and ran to Ace to get birdseed and Starbucks for Jake’s pup cup. And I worked. The book is moving along but I’m having to comb through each chapter to fix the geography. It’s all good. Stormy had soccer Sunday afternoon. He played well. He’ll be hanging around after school this week. And as B.E. said, it was a pretty quiet weekend.

    Have a great week, all!

I’m sorry that you aren’t feeling all that well and that it caused a mess with baking. It’s good that you were able to adjust meds and still bake some goodies.

Our boys are too funny and you are funny too saying they called you because they were bored.

It’s a good thing that the retaining walls are waiting a little while. With the rain you never know about the stability of the soil.

I got the Christmas cards done and took them to the post office this morning. I don’t trust putting stuff in the mail box at the house this time of year. Our drive is 187′ so it’s easy to take things and I wouldn’t know.

Youngest and I may be going to see my mom this Saturday. It’s supposed to snow so it all depends on how bad it’s going to get. Her birthday is Sunday so I hope we get to go.

I sure hope that you and Wizards are kicking that cold to the curb. Have a good afternoon.

B.E., yeah, Middle should be fine. I just know how busy he is, and didn’t want him to put off something minor until it became major. But he took care of it.

A quiet weekend is probably what you need after a busy week at work. I bet your granola bars are good! Hope your week is off to a good start!

Silver, oldest often calls me when he’s commuting, so I can relate. I had to laugh when I called Middle back, he teased me about not sitting around waiting for him to call :-) I love that he realizes his dad and bravely managed to go on with our lives after our kids were rude enough to leave home and build their own lives .

So true on bug bites, LOL! In any case, he took care of it which makes me happy.

Yes I saw those reports on canine influenza too, and surprisingly I knew about it. Either from my daughter in law who worked for a vet, or from my obsession on watching vet shows :-) But I don’t most people have heard that so you’re in good company.

Yay for quiet, big yay for rain (as long as it’s not too much in a short time), birdseed and Jake’s pup cup! And since I’m not writing right now, I live vicariously through yours :-)

Hope you have a great week with Stormy and the book! Stay warm too!

Viki, thanks, I think the worst days of the cold were over the weekend. The cold med thing is always tricky for me, but I’m doing pretty well now. Plus lots of water and hot tea helps.

Our boys are funny, and it’s great that we enjoy them. I’m truly grateful that they do call.

Your right, it’s best to wait on the getting all the work done. I didn’t really think it’s rain this much. Many times, the storms don’t make it too us, but this one sure did! We even have a few snow capped hills.

Congrats on the Christmas cards! I have most done and Wizard just now took them to the post office too. But with your driveway, I can see why you don’t trust the mailbox. That is one long driveway!

I hope you and youngest can go see your mom on Saturday! I assume it’s the weather that may stop you. I also hope your mom is doing as well as possibly and has a good birthday. Youngest is such a great son and grandson!

    Have a great evening!
