Weekend Roundup

Happy Monday! Most of us in the U.S. lost an hour on Saturday night, and this year, I am feeling it. I usually adjust quickly though, and hope all of you do too!

Friday it rained, and Saturday was cloudy with a misty sprinkle here and there. Maggie and I ignored the moody weather and took a second walk to see the stream behind our house. Turns out, other dog walkers had the same idea :-) They were all leashed and well behaved, so that made it nice for all of us. It’s a rare event for the little stream to make it’s way down the hills, and we all seem drawn to it, LOL! Well except at dusk-ish or dawn-ish when the coyotes are out. They were definitely hunting early Sunday morning and when I went out back, it sounded like they were near the stream. Maggie was having no part of going outside once she heard them — smart dog!

Also on Saturday, Wizard and I went to a big box home store, and found a couple pictures for the living room — I’m really happy as we believe the pictures will help tie all the elements of the room together (at least in our minds, which is good since we’re the ones who are living here :-) )  While at the store, I looked at Dutch ovens and Wizard was over that dilemma. “JUST BUY IT!”  So I now have a Dutch oven, LOL.

Sunday I tried making sourdough. It was an all day event that produced two hopeful loaves which are the final proofing, or whatever it’s called at this stage, in the fridge. With no sourdough experience, I have no idea how it will turn out. We will find out today when I bake it! I’m also trying a gluten free pizza dough, I’ll have to let you know in the comments how that comes out since I’m writing this will the dough is rising. Note to self: Why do I tackle two projects like this in the same day?

Oh and a random comment — the cold, freezes and snow in some areas did not kill the poppies. I’m surprised! When the sun is out, the hills light up in an orange carpet. We can see then from our dining room windows, and on walks. We are enjoying the moment as the heat and less scenic views will be here soon enough.

How was your weekend?

There was a weekend? LOL Maggie is smart, yay for new pics and the Dutch oven, bread and dough experiements and poppies! Y’all were busy beavers this weekend. Me? I was a lazy daisy slug.

I hate the time change. I don’t adjust well. Never have. Leave the clocks on Standard Time and leave well enough alone! University of Colorado has a new study out saying that there are 28 more traffic deaths than average following the time change. That doesn’t sound like much unless one of them is someone you know. Just sayin’…

So, weekend. There was the World Baseball Classic and OSU Cowgirl softball. All of it on TV. I pretty much sport-geeked out for the duration. My Cowgirls took two of three over Florida State. Team USA is 1-1 and the Czech Republic team I was rooting for is out of the tournament but they beat China so big win for them and they’ll get to come back for the next one. Not bad for a bunch of dudes who have day jobs because there’s no money playing baseball, practice when they can, scrounge equipment of eBay, and have a neurosurgeon for a coach/manager.

Not much else going on. Hitting Wallyworld this monring once it finally gets daylight outside. Stupid DST. 😝 And I forsee a nap maybe.

    Have a great week all!

I hate daylight saving time! It had a place in our lives during WWI and WWII but not anymore. There are studies that show more people die of heart attacks the Monday after DLS begins than any other time of the year.

Fantastic to hear that the poppies are okay with all the nasty weather you have had.

I bet Maggie was very happy to get out on her walks with you. Sounds like some people are finally getting the message that dogs should be on a lead at all times.

Yeah! on the Dutch Oven and pictures too. What color is the Dutch oven?

Can’t wait to hear how the sour dough turned out and the pizza too.

Doing things with hubs is getting harder. But we keep trying. Yesterday we made stuffed cabbage (request from eldest since he figures it will be the last time he ever gets them) and he kept asking me how to make them. It’s his mom’s recipe that ONLY he had. I just kept guessing. I did pretty good. They taste just like his moms 😊.

Hubs has wanted to make pepperoni bread for a week and I finally bought the ingredients. He had to make the dough today and had trouble with that. He wanted to add molasses to it – yuck. Kept saying he always did that – not true. The dough rests overnight so we’ll find out tomorrow when I make the bread. Man, I hope he didn’t put any really strange things in the mix. I just can’t watch him 24/7.

There were several other not so fun points to the weekend. A good one though, the Indian Reservation back home through a benefit for my brother and wife to help with all the medical expenses. It was the biggest success they have ever had. Lines of people were waiting outside to get in. My brother is so overwhelmed.

I hope you have a great afternoon!

Silver, we do keep busy, LOL. For the most part, we enjoy it or we wouldn’t do it. I’ll share the results of my sourdough on Wednesday!

I wouldn’t call your weekend lazy as much as taking advantage of the quiet with Only and family on their Ireland adventure :-)

Yeah, I’ve read some of the various studies. And I lived in Arizona for a few years as a teenager and it was nice not to deal with the change. But then, most people don’t like change :-)

It actually sounds like a really enjoyable weekend for you. I’m seriously impressed with the Czech team! I hope they enjoyed that big win of China. And yay for your Cowboys, 2 out of 3 is something to celebrate.

Hope you got Walmart done and are enjoying the rest of your day. Maybe even a nap!

Viki, you’re in good company as I hear the majority of people hate it. I tend to adjust quickly so it doesn’t bother me as much, but I sympathize with those who do!

Lately, I have been seeing more dogs on leashes lately. I’m not really sure why but I think it’s a good thing. I think almost all our neighbors have dogs, it’s kind of amazing, and they walk them on leash too.

My Dutch Oven is ombre gray and I love it. Now that I’ve made the sourdough, it’s getting scorched but I still love it! So on the Caputo flour — the bread was good, but I can made a good gluten free bread without it. But it did a great job on the pizza! It doesn’t brown well, but it had a nice chew bite too it. I believe it can be made thin and crispy too. I will probably buy it again but just use it for the pizza dough. Also, the Caputo flour has wheat in it, just not gluten, and I’d advise people to do their own research before using it.

It does sound like your hubs is progressing quickly, and I’m so sorry. Is it possible for you to get some help? That always sounds easier than it truly is for many reasons. But feel free to vent here.

The cabbage rolls made me think of my mom :-) She made them when I was a kid. I liked them then, but never made them since. I’m glad yours came out good even if you were guessing on the recipe! I’ve never made pepperoni bread, but can’t imagine putting molasses in it. It sounds like the weekend was tiring enough without the time change.

That is great and very toughing news about the benefit for your brother and sister-in-law! The outpouring of love and support will help both of them. You’re brother must be a wonderful man, and I’m really pleased that he is getting this kind of support.

I really hope you have a good week!
