Weekend Roundup

I really hate seeing Wizard disappointed. We went to the airshow on Saturday, but after sitting in the car in line to get in the gate for  2 1/2 hours, we finally gave up.  We’ve been to airshows before, and I’ve never seen no effort at reasonable traffic control as happened here. Cars were lined up on the street for miles and they knew this would happen. We got there early as instructed, followed the rules and got nowhere. I really don’t understand it. We’d paid for VIP seats too. But what upset me more was this was important to Wizard. He’s an adult and handled it fine, but I still hate it.

As far as the rest of the weekend, the most exciting part was I took Maggie to PetSmart to see if they had a good bed for her for the living room. I didn’t find one, but Maggie had a blast and I bought her a couple treats. She loves going anywhere. Once in the store, when she though I was distracted, she did her best to get people to pet her. At one point making a serious -looking guy crack up at her antics. Once she saw she’d succeeded in getting his attention, she decided to bark and wiggle to get him to come to her. I rolled my eyes so hard, and spent the next few minutes walking her through the aisles and practicing commands to get her calm and refocused.

And this guy? He kept laughing as he walked by. He wanted to stop and pet her, but he realized I was refocusing her and resisted. I admire that. I usually let people who ask pet her, but in this case, I needed her to calm down. She can’t bark her demands. (Also her trainer should have headed that off, but failed to stop it before before her excitement built to that level. Bad trainer! Also, her trainer is me, and Maggie is not well-trained, LOL.)

But I wanted to laugh. She used to be so scared and now she thinks everyone in the world is her friend. There’s worse things that a friendly, confident dog.

So how was your weekend?

Aww, Maggie’s so awesome. I’m sorry she got herself all wound up. :hugs: And I’m sorry the traffic at the airshow was so craptastic.

The weekend passed in a cloud of kitten fur. There is no rest when you have kittens. None. They’re awesome, but tiring.

Bummer about the air show. There is no excuse for poor planning and I would notify the sponsors and demand my money back. It’s not that hard to arrange for adequate parking, traffic control, and the case when Will Rogers hosted the big air show, off-site parking with shuttle-bus service. Heck, they do that with the Women’s College world Series because parking at the field is at a premium. The shuttles (which are actually the AC’d big motor coach busses) take ticket holders right up to the entrance gate where there are plenty of lines to show tickets, including a VIP, box seat, and series ticket holders special line. I’m sorry Wiz didn’t get to see it. So disappointing. Maggie has made such HUGE strides since you adopted her. Yay! Better a happy, excited dog who loves people and pets than a fearful, shy dog. Jake loves to go too, but he’s so mellow when “working.”

Mother Nature did a 180 and Saturday’s soccer game was FRIGID! Temps in the low 40s with a stiff north wind and windchill in the 20s. The good news is, Stormy’s team won! Psst. They beat the “bully” team so that was a big ol’ YIPPEE KI YAY!

My Cowgirls are in a slump. :( And my Cards are up and down. :( Not a good sports weekend but for soccer. LOL

I spent most of Sunday trying to find the sweet spot for my computer monitor. These glasses (free courtesy of Medicare) only have far vision and bifocals. I’ve had to raise my monitor so that I can “read” it with the bificals without twisting my neck up and down. I wandered the house and garage looking for things to use as a base for the monitor stand that was the right height. Sadly the optimum distance from eyes to monitor straight on is about 12″. Trying to get that spacing with the way my desk is built and the way I sit in my desk chair has been interesting. I think I have the height right now, but the “width”? Not so much. Still, I managed to do some reading, editing, and new words this weekend so that’s a yay.

Chilly and rainy this week. That’s fine. We need the rain! And maybe I’ll actually do some serious work. I soooo need to finish the dang WIP! Okay, BOTH of the current WIPs. LOL

On that note, Jake and I are off to Wallyworld for the weekly grocery run. Have a great week, all!

That is just awful about the traffic trying to get into the air show. Is it a city issue a venue issue? Regardless, you should be refunded your money.

Oh Maggie 😄. She is too much. What a doll. I know, I shouldn’t be loving her behavior, but she is quiet the actress. It is good that you took control and got her back on the straight and narrow.

My weekend was nothing fun. Just waiting and this morning my mom finally got peace. My cousin is so exhausted. She and I have decided to wait a few days to work on plans. Cos needs to rest.

I hope you have a wonderful afternoon.

    B.E., Maggie things you’re awesome :-)

I bet your life is full now with two kittens! They are both so cute in the pics I saw on FB! Hope you are enjoying them and managing to get some rest!

Silver, I plan to do that today (notify them) but just haven’t done it yet. They’ve run airshows pre-covid and never had this kind of problem. I’m just disgusted.

Since Maggie isn’t causing trouble, I’ll agree with you. I’d rather a confident friendly dog than a nervous scared one. She can be timid at times, but these days, she’s mostly confident and happy.

Yay for Stormy and his team! Way to go! But sorry for the cold and wind!

Hopefully your teams do better next weekend.

Ah, okay, bifocals. Mine are progressive that do have a middle field, yours sounds a bit more tricky. I hope you find a set up that works.

Hope you get some but not too much rain, and lots of work if you can find the right set up and don’t cause strain on your eyes (or a headache).

    Say hi to Jake!!

Viki, I’m so sorry. At the same time, I so understand the relief that she’s at peach. I felt the exact same exhaustion, relief and grief. You and your cousin are very wise to give yourself a couple days to rest up and adjust. You’ve been, and are still going through, a huge life change. Hugs.

It’s fine to laugh at Maggie. When Wizard got home last night, I was “showing” him how Maggie wiggles and wags her tail as she tried to get the guy come pet her…Wizard was cracking up. He tried to video me but laughed to hard then I refused to repeat that performance. I was so exasperated and laughing at the same time.

We are the reason Maggie “gets away” with that stuff.
But she does calm once I get her mind focused. We are lucky that she wants to please us.

I hope your faith and memories brings you peace and comfort now and the weeks ahead. I’ll be thinking of you.
