Fun Fact About Me

Fun fact about me — I’m a danger to myself while cooking, baking and sometimes, just breathing, LOL.

I am getting pretty decent at making plain old “white bread” sourdough, except for one minor detail.  Every time I use the special razor called a “lame” to score the top of dough, I somehow cut myself.

This last time I cut myself AFTER I’d carefully put the lame back in the box. I mean…that takes talent right? Well it slid out the other end of the cheap cardboard box and cut my index finger. The cut is healing, but it required creative bandaging and I wore a glove while prepping the enchiladas and chopping herbs for the rice to not add any unwanted ingredients.

Then I cut myself cutting the sourdough bread on another finger :-)  It’s a gift people. It’s not the sourdoughs fault, it has a nice crust while the inside is soft and slightly chewy as we like it. But my breadknife can slip and bounce if it doesn’t catch on the first pass, and that slip always finds my finger. (Also I need new knives, but that’s another issue having to do with me not wanting cheap knives but being too cheap to invest in a good set.)

Then, I swear this is true, I cut another knuckle when I reached for my saran wrap. My knuckle barely grazed the edge of the cutting side of the aluminum foil and slit open. I swore in frustration at that point.

Now here’s an interesting part. Wizard had to deal with a difficult phone call during all my prep and put it on speaker so I could hear it. I was peeling and slicing apples for apple pie at the time (with a glove on). I listened to this call intently, not paying enough attention to what I was doing with the knife and yet, I didn’t cut myself then. Weird.

Anyway, by the time company came over, I was covered in Band Aids. To their credit, no one asked, and everyone pretended I am perfectly normal. They also seem to really enjoy all the food so it was all worth it!

What’s a fun fact about you?

I’m not sure you need new, SHARPER knives! You might lose a finger or something! Of course, I have no room to talk there.

Something fun about me? I can walk through a room, hallway, etc. and if there is a door knob sticking out, it will nail the back of my hand or arm. I often end up with red “blood” bruises (something old people get and it’s actually called senile purpura. Yes, seriously!) on the backs of my hands and I have no clue what I bumped into.

Glad the bread is working, and I guess the key is to pay less attention? LOL And I should probably curl my arms across my chest anytime I traverse from one room to another. Happy Hump Day!

Your poor hand/fingers. The most annoying thing is that once we hurt ourselves we seem to continue to injure that spot. Over and Over and Over. It was smart to wear a glove when making the enchiladas. Getting juices and and spice in the cuts would have been extra annoying.

If anything get your knives professionally sharpened. It will make a world of difference.

I had my massage today. I was so bad she worked on me for an extra 1/2 hour. I’m feeling pretty good right now 😊.

The past two weeks I’ve been working with Allstate to bring our car insurance down. They have a special reduction for low mileage. Well BMW kept screwing up the number. Eventually they got it right (with me badgering them) and it’s now $200 less. Time well spent.

I hope you are having a wonderful day. No more cuts!

Silver, LOL! That might be true :-) But I use my knives daily and do need new ones. Today I managed to get a minor blood blister rolling up the hose after washing down the patio so I’m just not safe anywhere!

I remember my mom having those bruises on the back of her hands. They were frustrating for her too. I’m slowly inching closer with my skin too.

Honestly, if we women stopped thinking three steps ahead rather than focusing on what we’re doing that second, we’d probably be safe!

Viki, it’s weird isn’t it? I use knives every day in my kitchen and very often come out unscathed. But then I have a day where my subconscious wants a little revenge or something! Oh and the gloves — you know that hadn’t occurred to me about getting something in the cut??? I was concerned about the other way around. But the glove over the bandage worked great and didn’t slow me down a bit.

I haven’t found a place to sharpen my knives, and I’ve worn my sharpening tool down :-) It’s just time to re-invest. I need to focus on finding a good set and being careful even when I’m doing three things at once.

I’m so glad you were able to get the time away and get the massage. I’m sure the extra half hour of work helped relieve some of the stress in your muscles. Hope the relief lasts for a while!

At least you finally got the insurance sorted out and a good discount! Definitely worth the time!
