Weekend Roundup

I hope all the dads had a terrific Father’s Day! I think Wizard did. We went over to Youngest’s house for dinner and had a great time. Otherwise, I spent the weekend baking. First I tried a gluten free lemon cupcake recipe that I didn’t like. I threw half the batch away (they were underbaked) and froze the other half to taste another time. Sometimes it’s just me.

I regrouped, and made some gluten and dairy free chocolate crinkle cookies that came out delicious–they were my favorite with a tender flakey shell outside, with a brownie texture inside. After that I made some gluten and dairy free sugar cookies, and turned those into sandwich cookies with a dairy free chocolate buttercream — those were youngest’s favorite.

After that, I made the cookies I’ve been looking for an excuse to make: A raspberry cheesecake cookie that’s supposed to be a dupe for the Crumbl cookie version. I made those for Wizard and my daughter-in-law, and they were a winner with them! Since I’ve never had a Crumbl cookie, I have no idea if they were close to their version, but the as long as the people I made them for are happy, that’s all I care about. There’s was no reason to make so many different cookies, but I did it just for fun to test some recipes? That should hold me in the baking department for a while.

I finished listening to A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER and was sad it was over.

How was your weekend?

Yay for a nice Father’s Day weekend! Yay for baking! Yay for a book good enough to be sad when it’s over. :hugs:

We didn’t do much this weekend. Well, I didn’t. Hubs washed the windows in the sun porch while I was at Wallyworld. Sawyer spent Saturday trying to be the naughtiest kitty ever and then both cats were super sedate all day yesterday, which was a nice break. Back at the grind today. Woohoo.

Yay for baking marathons! Glad most of them turned out delicious. Yay for family time. And yeah, I felt the same way when AHDFAH ended. I hope Darynda will revisit Del Sol and its denizens!

Our weekend was a jumble. Baseball Boy had to make an emergency run up the turnpike because his dad was admitted to the hospital after BB’s grandmother and niece called the ambulance. He got home Saturday night before the big storms hit, which was a blessing. His dad will stay in hospital for a few days until they get UTI and heart blips under control. The Kids are looking into skilled care down here to move him into.

Saturday was soccer. Stormy played well but the headcoach and her son were still out of town and Only’s “backup” coach is BB, who was still with his dad. She did a good job of herding cats. Then we headed north for our final farewell meal at Alvarado’s. We’re trying to convince the owner to publish a cookbook. It was bittersweet but we got to say goodbye to all our favorite staff. And the food was awesome as always.

Big wind and hail storm blew through about midnight. We got lucky and were in a pocket of the storm that wasn’t too severe. Tulsa still has over 100K customers without power. The hospital was on generator on Sunday. Winds were 60-100 mph. Crazy stuff.

Sunday, LG slept late and lazed around which he gets to do on Father’s Day. I did laundry and a little writing. It was a good weekend for the most part, ignoring a few bumps.

Stormy’s here for mornings this week then goes to his Mario coding class in the afternoons. He’s got a friend from school who’s in the class too so he’s extra excited.

    Have a good week, all!

That’s a lot of baking. I think I’d love those raspberry cheesecake cookies. They just sound yummy.

Getting together at BLB’s for Father’s Day sounds wonderful. Though there is no mention of Maggie. Did she stay home?

Completely agree with you on the Sunshine series being over. I loved it.

The boys and hubs were back here at 2:30 yesterday. They left at 7:30 my time and didn’t stop. It sounds like they had a good time. There were some videos sent to me of the guys all playing water gun games.

It’s getting hot here (hot for me – 85). The humidity is supposed to start climbing too. It is summer after all.

My brother is finally being released from the hospital with some drugs. He’ll be on them for 4 weeks to see if there is improvement. It took them 6 days just to calm his heart down so we’ll see how it goes.

I kind of hurt my back vacuuming this morning. Sure hope it feels better tomorrow.

I hope you have a really great afternoon!

B.E., Sassy Sawyer Saturday! LOLOL! Sorry I couldn’t help myself. Glad the kitties decided to give you a break on Sunday.

We know it’s a good book when we’re sad it’s over.

Hubs washing windows is always a win! We need to do that but keep doing other things instead. There’s never a shortage of chores to be done, is there?

Hope you have a good week at work!

Silver, I hope BB’s dad will be okay. You all must have been relieved he got home before the storm hit. Back to his dad — I hope they can find the right place to get him into. It’s not an easy thing, at least not here.

I think I got that — Only filled in for the headcoach and BB who is backup? I say Only did great! It’s always hard to fill in.

What a great idea to have the owner write a cookbook! I hope he does it! I would be interested. I just like cookbooks :-) I bet you made him feel good too. It’s nice to be valued.

That storm was a doozy. I’m hearing Mississippi is got hit too by a bad storm too. I’m sorry for all of those without power!

LG deserves to laze around on his day! And sometimes it’s best to ignore the weekend bumps, but I’m assuming BB’s dad was one of them, and I’m sorry you’re all going through it. I hate when our kids are going through stuff.

A Mario coding class? That sounds so cool! Enjoy your mornings with Stormy!

Viki, Maggie stayed home. Youngest’s dog, Phoebe, isn’t always thrilled to have other dogs around, and Maggie is still in her 14 days of being careful of too much activity. On an upside, Phoebe and Wizard are good friends now. It’s really sweet to see! I will take Maggie around her on a leash when she’s fully healed.

I’m so glad the boys and their dad had a good time. It’s good for him too as long as he was able to handle the change in his normal schedule. I hope you were able to get some rest and relaxation too!

I’m not great in the heat with humidity either. But for me, I’m happy to have sunshine and my flowers are happy too.

Whew, that’s some positive news on your brother. Do they know what set his heart off? I was wondering if his treatments contributed or it they are unrelated? Of course, he’s had a lot of stress too and that’s never helpful, as you well know. I sure hope the meds work and he can get to a healthier place.

Yikes, I’m sorry about your back. It’s so annoying, isn’t it? We are just trying to get stuff done, and some part of our body objects in the rudest way. Hope tomorrow it feels much better!

But for the rest of the day, try to rest if you can!
