What Are You Reading?

I just finished reading on my Kindle a mystery TO DIE FOR by Lisa Gray (release date is August 1st 2023). I liked it a lot. The only thing that I struggled with a bit — and this is totally my fault and not the authors — is keeping the fairly large cast characters and suspects straight. But that’s typical for me as I sometimes don’t retain the names of characters but I remember traits so I usually sort it out. I didn’t love the ending as much as I’d hoped, but I still enjoyed reading the book and guessing who the killer was. I thought the author did a good job.

In audio books, I’m loving a young adult dystopian set in Southern CA about the water taps going suddenly dry. This hits close to home for me, so that may be part of the love. The title is DRY by Neal Shusterman and Jarod Shusterman.  One of the things that draws me in is seeing is human nature playing out as they face a developing tragedy through the eyes of these young adults — who themselves are being forced to choose who they will become in the moment of crises.

So that’s what I’m reading and listening to, what about you?

I’m about to finish up a marathon relisten of the Kate Daniels series and offshoots (in story-arc chronological order). They’ve just released two novellas this spring and summer with the audio available as of yesterday–MAGIC TIDES and MAGIC CLAIMS, packaged together which is a boon for their fans. These two stories take place after the final book in the original series but before a spin-off book, BLOOD HEIR. So far, I’m enjoying the books. Finished off the first story and working on the second. Once I’m done, I’ll finish off with BH. Once I’m done, I may go “old skool” and listen to HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE because it was free (for a short time) with my Audible membership. Not sure. There’s a Russian mob romance I’ve bookmarked on Hoopla that I might try. It’ll depend on my mood. LOLOL

    Happy reading/listening, all!

I just finished Jason Chaffetz’s – The puppeteers : the people who control the people who control America. I kind of knew most of this was going.

I’m reading Trapped In Ice by Cynthia Eden and Unbroken Bonds of Battle by Johnny Joey Jones.

I mix fun with really serious stuff ☺.

I hope you are having a great day!

I read something by Shusterman years ago – another YA dystopian. It was pretty good, but I can’t think of the title right now. As for reading, I haven’t been reading anything lately. I was re-reading my first (published) book, but I haven’t had time to crack it open in weeks. I’m going on vacation soon, so I’m looking forward to hitting a few ebooks I’ve downloaded. I hope they’re good ones.

Silver, that is a marathon listen! I grabbed the Harry Potter book when it was free too, and listened to it :-) It’s always fun to revisit.

Yep my reading depends on my mood (and patience) too!

Viki, it’s good to mix nonfiction and fiction in my opinion. I do it all the time :-)

I somehow missed answering the blog yesterday, but today is going well enough. Not exciting but not bad so I’ll take it. Hope yours is going well too.

B.E. I know you like dystopian’s too :-) I often like the YA ones even better, I think because the characters grow more (as we do at that age).

Yay for your upcoming vacation! You’ve earned it for sure!
