Friday Five

TGIF!! Friday showed up again, which means it’s time to share five random things about our week. Here’s mine:

  1. This week has been a heck of a lot better than last week! The heat is on at a 100+ daily here and that’s limiting our outdoor stuff, but otherwise, not a bad week. I did a few things like got my hair done. It’s still short and I like it most of the time. I also bought makeup. I’ve never been good at makeup, but I wear it daily just to feel like I made an effort. And I baked some sourdough bread and gluten free, dairy free brownies. The bread seemed to come out fine. The brownies are from a recipe off the internet, and somehow, the oven temp didn’t print so I guessed 350 degrees. Gluten free flour is tricky so these are Goldilocks brownies — they might be overdone, underdone or just right :-)
  2. Wizard got his stitches out, and that night, he opened up one spot on his eyelid. I mentally over-reacted, but it turned out to be fine, just a little surface break in the healing area. We treated it, did a makeshift butterfly bandage to sleep with to prevent him from accidently scratching it, and it’s healing up well. Whew — for a few minutes, I thought I was going to have to drag him to Urgent Care.
  3. My sinus x-rays have not yet been read by the radiologist as of late Thursday afternoon. It’ll be a week today. If it’s not read and the report issued by this morning, I will be calling and “encouraging” people to do their jobs. If I get resistance, I’ll be informing my insurance that a provider they are paying is not doing their job. I’ve been patient and nice until now, but they are running a cattle operation there, and I’m over it.
  4. Due to the heat, if we run out of things to do in the late afternoon or evening, we’ve been watching Yellowstone. Now I’ve never been to Montana, but I’m guessing this may not be a fair representation of the state in all things, LOL. But as long as one doesn’t mind violence and murder being the go-to solution for all life’s problems, the show can be entertaining.  And we’re watching it together which is nice. Maggie can even get on the couch outside of her normal couch time. She loves it!
  5. We hope to go see Turbo on Sunday. Oldest offered to have us over but I didn’t nail down the plan as I should have. Today I need to do that with my daughter in law, only because she knows their family schedule better than my son and there may be something he forgot going on that day. Otherwise she always welcomes us. That will be fun!

So that’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend — I think we all deserve that!

Goldilock Brownies! LOLOL Hope they turned out “just right.” Yay for stitches out but I’m surprised they didn’t give Wiz an eye shield to sleep in. Scary but glad no UC trip needed. Ugh on the X-rays. It’s only gonna get worse, I fear. Hope they get on the ball! I thought the original premiere of “Yellowstone” was all kinds of awesome. Then I got busy and forgot to watch all the rest of the seaons. Oops. I do love the theme though! (In fact, I have the video of the recording of the scene on my blog & FB today. Great minds, LOL). Pretty sure Maggie loves the extra couch time. And yay for maybe Turbo Time™! Y’all have awesome kids. My mostly boring five:

    1. It’s all about the nature. My crepe myrtles are finally starting to bloom. They last a long time but mine bloom like WEEKS after everyone elses. No clue why. Still, pretty dark pink fluffs on the bushes when I go in the backyard. 🌸

    2. Parakeets are not indigenous to Oklahoma in the wild yet I’ve had two different ones show up at the bird feeder. One was a pale yellow/green and the other was blue. Don’t know if they escaped or were let loose. Not sure they could survive a winter so I hope they turn migratory! 🦜

    3. Jake likes his new vet, as do we. He takes his pills nicely (wrapped in American cheese slice) and doesn’t fuss when I “squirt” his ears. The ear that had to be drained got some more blood in it but not nearly as full as before and it isn’t getting worse. We go back Monday. (And yes, repeat info but I told you up front–boring life!)

    4. Typed The End but edits/revisions going slower than anticipated. Stupid RL keeps interferring and Iffy keeps complaining it’s too hot to work and she wants Starbucks. Arguing with a Muse is exhausting work! So far, only two Starbucks–one because I needed a break and the other was because I had to pick up a prescription and the Starbucks is…like…RIGHT there! ☕

    5. Pete story for the day. Normally, he wants outside after breakfast. Sometimes, he’ll come back in during the heat of the day. He usually comes in around dinner time and stays the night. He’s always waited until one of us went into the garage before dashing out or coming in. This week, it’s been in and out. In and out. Out and in. Out and in. Typical cat. Instead of waiting now, he’ll come into my office, meow loudly and stare at me until I get up to open the door to let him out. (Garage door is a few steps from my office). He’s very plainly saying. “Owwwwt. Waaant owwwt. Neow!” Being the cat slave I am, I stop what I’m doing and let the darn thing out.

Final-FINAL Stormy soccer game of the summer tomorrow. Probably around noon. Ugh. Gonna be hot. And humid and yeah, it IS the humidity that kicks arse. School starts in about 2 weeks. How crazy is that?!?! I’ll be working on the edits cuz the dang book didn’t write itself (now matter how many spells I tried to caste on it!) and it’s refusing to edit itself. I also need to nudge my cover designer to find out where she is the process. Okay. Time for more coffee and then edits. :-?

    1. Getting your hair done is always good. Buying make-up must be fun. I wear lip gloss ALL the time. The bread looks great and I hope the brownies are “just right.”
    2. Yes for nurse Jenn 😊. It must be a relief that you were successful with taking care of the opening and that Wizard is doing well.
    3. Oh man would I be ticked off if those scans weren’t read by today. I’m guessing you’re a little more tactful than I would be. Figures are crossed that you have results.
    4. I love Yellowstone just for the scenery. We’re cheap and can only see what Spectrum allows us which are the first 5 episodes of seasons 4 and 5. It would be nice to see it from the start. Are you watching 1883 too? I like it better than Yellowstone. We can’t see 1923 yet. One day we may pay for Paramount+ – who am I kidding? We won’t.
    5. Sure hope you and DIL got things arranged and you get to see Turbo this weekend.

1a. The guy showed up yesterday to start work on the stucco. Turns out to be worse than a simple repair. The guys that did it 8 years ago didn’t do it right and there is inside damage. More money but will be fixed correctly. He should finish on Monday. He left already today because of weather.
2a. Hubs got a summons for jury duty in the mail today. It’s three months of juvenile court. I have a call in on how I get him out of it. With cognitive decline he cannot do it. He’ll break down.
3a. Harrison starts school on the 8th and is excited.
4a. We keep having cloud burst. It’s kind of cool except the flooding. I found a huge crayfish in the ditch.
    5a. Nothing for the weekend.

    Have a great weekend!

Silver the brownies are good and came out just the way we like them. But wow are they rich. I cut of a few into smaller pieces and froze them. Yea the x-rays suck and so far, I can’t even talk to a human. Also with you on it getting worse.

    1) Yay for your crepe myrtles blooming! I love going outside and seeing any or our plants bloom. Enjoy!
    2) Those poor parakeets. I’m assuming they were caged raised so likely don’t have any survival skills. But glad they found your bird feeder!
    3) It’s not boring about Jake and the new vet. I’m really glad you found a vet you and Jake like. Jakes ears might need a bit more work, but they will heal in time since you and the vet are giving him great care.
    4) RL is so intrusive, and Iffy’s not wrong on the heat. And some books are just more demanding and aggravating. Hugs on that!
    5) Pete’s language skills are coming along, LOL! Maggie does something similar when I’m cooking only she sits at the door and stares at me until I stop whatever I’m doing to let her out — then she decides not to go out. Like — Ha, I made you stop and attend to me. So cats and dogs! The both control us :-)

Hope Stormy has a great last game and it’s not too hot! Also hope you can make progress on the edits and nudging the cover designer. And coffee obviously belongs in every day as much as possible!

Viki, we love the brownies, so my guess on temp and time was right :-) I’m so frustrating over the xrays I’m walking away until Monday. I’ve stopped the latest antibiotic and will see if he returns or not. It’s probably all find anyway.

    1) Tat is maddening to find out the previous guys didn’t do the job right. And now you have to literally $pay$ for it. But good that you found someone you trust to do it.
    2) Figures hubs would get the jury duty summons — it’s just one more thing for you to handle. Hopefully one phone call will take care of it.
    3) Yay for Harrison! He’s going into first grade? Turbo is starting kindergarten and I think Harrison is about a year older?
    4) Huh that crayfish must have a wild story to tell (if he was alive). I’m sorry for the flooding. But the cloudbursts can be exciting for a few minutes.
    5) Well your last weekend was so busy maybe this will be a nice relaxing weekend for you.

Hope you have a great evening and weekend!
