Weekend Roundup

It was a good weekend. I made a double batch of chocolate chip cookies and we took half to Youngest. Then we had middle, his wife and the two pups over. We made ribs and stuff to go with it. My daughter in law helped, especially since I can’t balance sauces and dressings very well right now, so she made the dressing for the green beans. I loved that dressing so much that I only put half on the green beans and hoarded the rest to use the rest of the week :-) Then we had the cookies and a lemon bread that’s supposed to be a dupe for the Starbucks lemon loaf. Click here for the recipe if anyone is intersted. It has gluten and dairy, but I ate one slice anyone and enjoyed every bite.  (Note on the recipe, while I used some lemon extract in the bread, I omitted it in the frosting as many of the commenters on that site suggested and I think it turned out best that way)

We had a good time, and their dogs were fun! Seeing Middle son and daughter-in-law was so what we needed.

Sunday, Wizard and I managed to take apart the two old bookcases in the office and move them out to the side of the house. We’ll have those picked up. We ordered one slightly smaller bookcase to go with the office furniture. That all was the easy part. The hard part was negotiating with Maggie on moving her chair. I want to put that bookcase where her chair is in the corner. But that’s Maggie’s World Viewing Spot and she was not happy when I moved her chair away from the window. So then I compromised and put her chair directedly under the window and she loved it!! The chair fits there so everyone is happy.

Lastly, we ordered some shirts for my brother in law’s memorial service. There’s a theme to honor  him, and he’d have loved it. That’s all good, but I spent way too long trying to figure out if a medium or large shirt would fit me. It can be wildly different from shirt to shirt. After two grueling hours of this, it dawned on me — buy both sizes and send the one that doesn’t fit back. I’m super quick-witted that way, LOL. I hope one of the shirts fits. I really like the design and want to wear it for a long time as it will always make think of my brother-in-law with a smile.

This evening we are going to my nephew’s for dinner. They just move close by us, and my niece, who has been living out of the country for a time, will be there too.  So will my sister and her hubby. That should be fun.

How was your weekend?

Yay for good food and all that family time! And I love that the memorial will be a true celebration of your BiL’s life and memory. Happy tears are so much better, especially if there is some laughter involved too. Your BiL sounds like he was all kinds of awesome. Poor Maggie but it sounds like she came out the winner and is happier now. Those are the best compromises.

I didn’t get much done this weekend. My Cowboys beat the odds and won. Yay. The Sooners squeaked by–literally. They won by 1 point. Watched some awesome baseball. It’s more fun when I don’t care who wins and can root for both teams. LOL

LG felt up to making Stormy’s soccer game yesterday. We got lucky and parked near the field and there were no hills or much rough ground to cover. And he actually sat in his chair. Normally he stands. Anyway, Stormy played the whole game at goalie and stopped all the scoring attempts that got through the defense. And our boys scored 3. I learned a new term: clean sheet. That means the other team scored no goals. LG said I should write a “Soccer Jargon for Grandparents” book. True story. The first book I ever sold was called “Military Jargon” and it was a dictionary of military terms for clueless spouses and families. It was sold in all the PXs (“department” stores on post/base), military museums and gift shops. It was just a slim little paperback brochure size but it sold out of like 15 printings. I’m pretty sure most grandparents are up on soccer terms. We aren’t because soccer isn’t our thing but we’re learning.

After the match, we went to Earl’s BBQ Palace (a local chain) and pigged out with the kids. Jake, as always, caused quite the stir and lots of people wanted to know what kind of dog he is. We came home after, fed Jake, and went to bed even though it was before 9 p.m. Sucks to be old! I’m off to Wallyworld. Have a great week, all!

Sounds like a fruitful weekend. I’m very happy to hear that Maggie’s chair is now under the window. She must be SO happy.

It was very damp and chilly here on Saturday but A came over with Queso and took hubs to the dog park and they had a great time. As soon as they got into the house I set up the Dyson heater to thaw hubs out. Since he has declined he gets very cold hands. All the reading I’ve done says this is normal and will not go away.

C and C went to dinner with us Saturday night and we had a great time.

I’m loving the oven. Have to go turn it on right now ;).

    Have a fantastic afternoon!

Silver, I think it will be a really nice memorial too. I’m positive there will be much laughter, and tears, but the laughter will live on. And yep, I agree on Maggie and her chair. I think she likes it even better now as she can see even more of the street.

Yay for the Cowboys (they were my BIL’s favorite team :-), and yeah, it is fun to like both teams.

That’s a big win to get parking close to the field. I’m glad LG was able to go. And wow, Stormy is rocking the goalie position!

Wow the Military Jargon book sounds like something I would have loved when writing! I can see why it as so popular. And yep, you should do a “Soccer Jargon for Grandparents” one. I’m pretty sure I’ll need it soon.

Yay for good food and family time. And I hear you on going to bed early. I am doing it more lately.

Hope your week is off to a great start!

Maggie seem very happy with the chair giving her a better view of the world :-)

That’s wonderful that hubs had a good time with A and Queso. It’s probably so good for him. But I’m sorry he got so cold. Smart of you to set up a heater to help him warm up faster.

Love that you also had a good dinner with C and C. Sounds like a good weekend overall.

Yay for enjoying your new oven!
