Wednesday Chatter

Monday night we went to dinner at my nephew’s house. I volunteered a fruit plate to go with hamburgers. I brought a LOT of fruit, lol. I like fruit, and I knew my sister would be there and she likes fruit too, so I probably went overboard. So Wizard was very confused when I got up Monday morning and made a batch of pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (they match the season!), I put them in a box and tied the box up in a fall ribbon bow. He watched me do this and asked me what I was doing. I told him we were taking the cookies too.

There was a time when he would have insisted if we’re bringing the requested fruit, we don’t need to bring anything else. To his credit, he just dutifully carried the box to the car since I had my hands full with the fruit plate. Once we arrived at their house and parked, he picked up the box and looked at it for a second.  I think it was the colorful autumn-themed ribbon and bow that confused him the most. And that’s when the light went on for him. “It’s a hostess gift!”

Well I think he might actually have said “Housewarming gift,” but he was close enough to get the general idea. It struck me as pretty funny watching him puzzle this out. Especially since we’re a pretty casual family and no one is expected to bring hostess gifts. However my nephew and his fiancé just moved closer to us, and this is the first time we’ve been invited to dinner as a couple. I’m not really skilled at things like hostess gifts, so unless I know they would appreciate wine or a specialty olive oil or something like that, I usually stick to homemade treats.

Also I got to see my niece who has been living out of the country. I haven’t seen her in a very long time. I think I’m about six or seven years older than my niece, and maybe four or five older than my nephew. Being close in age, we had a lot to reminisce about. It was so fun! My throat burned from all the talking, but it was totally worthy it!

So how’s your Wednesday going?

Men can be so clueless and it’s so fun to watch the light bulb go off. The cookies sound yummy and so does the fruit plate. Family dynamics are so interesting. ;)

We had rain yesterday. Much needed. There’s another complex about an hour out bringing more rain.

Ahahaha. I’m listening to Kate Carlisle’s latest book (THE TWELVE BOOKS OF CHRISTMAS) and the Scottish vicar has LG’s name. I had to stop the audio book and listen again. Yup. When names of real people I know get used for characters, it always delights me and makes me laugh.

I’ll be saving the rest for Friday Five. I need to figure out how to post a picture in the comments between now and then. For…reasons… LOLOL

Happy Hump Day. Hope your weather is cooling off. We’re cooler but the humidity is back which is fine because RAIN!

That’s really wonderful having your niece and nephew move close by. After years apart, getting together must have been wonderful and your sister was there too 💗.

Wizard got it – I love it 🥰. Somewhere deep down they seem to eventually get it.

You have me craving those cookies. Did you save some for you and Wizard? I may have to bake some this weekend.

How many quart is your Dutch Oven? I’ve never baked bread in mine and neither has C. She is doing sour dough breads and I told her about you using the Dutch Oven. Hers is 2 3/4 quarts.

I’m getting my hair done Friday and a massage Saturday. I need both 😉.

Sure hope you are having a good day!

Silver, man, that is so true about family dynamics. They can be fun, or crazymaking :-) In this case, it was just fun.

I hope you guys keep getting the right amount of rain. I know you need it, just not too much at once.

Yep I can have that same reaction to characters named the same as people I know. And I’ve been telling myself to pick up some audio books, Kate sounds like a great choice!

Huh I wonder what the picture is! I used to know how to post pics in the comments, but those brain cells have long since died :-) I’m sure there’s a blogger hack online somewhere to tell you!

Our weather is cloudy and coolish today, and it works for me. Right now I have all the windows open and the house fan running. Enjoy the rain!

Viki, thanks it was nice. I enjoy family, but they all stayed until 2 in the morning to play cards. Oh and the ate the cookies I took :-) I want to be home and planted on the couch by 9, LOL.

Yes I kept a dozen or so for us.

I looked at my Dutch oven and it it doesn’t tell me the size, but I think it was 5 or 6 quarts. I wish I could remember specifically, I’m sorry! I hope she has something she can try it in. I use my Dutch oven for other things too, like stew. It’s pretty stained already (high oven temps for sourdough does that), but I don’t mind as long as it does the job.

Friday is your spa day! Hope the hair and massage make you feel great!
