Friday Five

TGIF!! I don’t know how it’s Friday again! It’s crazy how fast time is going. Halloween is next week and then we’re into the holiday season.  This has been a weird year. Okay let’s get to sharing five random things about our week (let’s see what I can remember, LOL!):

  1. So I got my shirts for the memorial that’s a week from today. But I sent them back. Wizard was out, found a great shirt for me and bought it. I was so surprised! And this shirt I’ll happily wear over and over, so that’s a win all around.
  2. Our bookshelf came for the office. It’s pretty, and I’m happy we have it. But it’s not going to be filled for a couple weeks. Wizard is handling some estate things for his brother, and I could see he just didn’t have the bandwith doing the work in the office, including some rearranging to make sure we have the best layout and see if we have enough storage. So I suggested we just put that on hold until he has a few pressing details handled. He was relieved, and I’m fine with it. We have a houseguest next week and the service, then a small trip. That’s more than enough right now.  Plus the office is so improved and functions so well, that we’re happy.
  3. Today we’re going to check out another possible pet sitter for Maggie. She does it in her house, and only a few animals at a time. Now that Maggie’s getting older, it might be a more ideal situation for her. I know my sister would watch her too and Maggie would be very happy and well cared for. But things come up that might include my sister and Maggie needs a safe and comfortable place to go. It’s a deal Wizard and I made when we first got her, and it’s been more useful than I would have imagined. It’s an added expense to any trip, but worth it to know Maggie’s safe.
  4. I took Maggie to the vet on Monday for a routine vaccine and other stuff. For an extra $15.00, they cut Maggie’s toenails too — they did a great job! She has black toenails and they often aren’t cut short enough for fear of hitting the quick. These are the perfect length! Then I gave her a bath at home, and did some minor (careful) blow drying. Maggie was so not pleased with me, LOLOL!! But she forgave me when I told her I had a special treat for her. She ran to the pantry and waited, then happily chewed her small treat bone thing.
  5. This weekend, we’re going to see Oldest, Special K and Turbo’s house. We’re looking forward to that. I’m taking red velvet cupcakes because we didn’t really celebrate Special K’s birthday due to my brother-in-law being so sick. Special K was so sweet and understanding, but I at least want to take her the cupcakes I know she likes. Oldest is going to make hamburgers on his new grill too, so it should be nice!

That’s my five, now I’d love to hear yours! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yay for Wiz and his super-secret buyer powers! There are times when procrastination is NOT a bad thing. 🤗 once again to Wiz, you, and the whole family. Good luck with finding a sitter. Y’all are great pet parents and Maggie deserves the best! See? I rest my case where Maggie is concerned! Special K is so special her day should be celebrated for a whole month! And yummers on burgers and cupcakes. My five.

    1. We have taken to calling the cat who shows up in costumes Costume Cat. LOL Hopefully, this link will work. It goes to a Google Pics file. Anyway, I couldn’t figure out if s/he was supposed to be Robin Hood, Peter Pan, or one of the Hocus Pocus witches. I believe there’s a ghost on the “skirt.” Anyway, s/he showed up yesterday afternoon sans costume. Poor thing. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipMvDOIVHBQHGp4XDaXJ8kjHBKO0EEjY43rj16Pe

    2. This is turning into a cat week. Little Repeat brushed against my leg one morning and when I bent over and held out my hand, he very tentatively sniffed my fingers. Progress!

    3. Back story: Loki does NOT like gushy food so he gets a small bowl with the “juice” from the gushy food. Pete LOVES the gushy food so he gets 1/3 of the can and the porch cats get the rest divided among them. This morning, the hand holding Pete’s gushy food bowl decided to quit working and the bowl dropped, and like buttered toast, it fell “butter” side down. After a few crude words, I scooped up the majority of the food, shorted the porch cats by adding another spoonful to Pete’s bowl. He sniffed the spot where I’d spilled the food while I “fixed” things. When I slid the bowl under the table, he sniffed it, turned up his tail and walked away. A few minutes later, he wanted out. An hour or so later, he wanted back in. He went to his bowl. It was empty. Licked clean. Hello, Jake the Cat Food Burglar. Now Pete is mad because I won’t open another can just for him. Tough toenails, kitty. You snooze, you lose. (FYI, he has a bowl full of kibble, which Jack couldn’t reach or it would likely be gone too. 🤣 )

    4. In non-cat related randomnosity, I’m about half-way through Kate’s latest book. It’s set in Scotland the narrator is doing an awesome job of all the various Scottish characters, as well as Derek’s English, Brooklyn and her parents’ American accents. It’s a fun one set around Christmas/New Year’s and Hogmanay (a Scottish celebration of the last day of the old year.) There is book thievery afoot, village gossips, and hopefully a New Year’s Day wedding for Brooklyn and Derek’s friends. I haven’t really kept up with the series but pop in occasionally because it’s Kate (and we love her) and these cozy mysteries are always entertaining.

    5. And finally, we had a “sea change” in the weather. Our high of 73 occurred at 6:30 this morning. It is currently 57 and dropping. Yay for blue northers! Windows closed and I’m hoping we don’t have to turn the heater on until Sunday, when the highs are supposed to be in the 30s. And yeah, I do believe Mother Nature is bingeing on the tequila again. 🤣

Weekend plans include World Serious baseball, OSU football, hot coffee, fuzzy slippers, and a soft hoodie. Also a good book, and new words on the WIP. Enjoy your weekend, all! 🥰

Okay, link worked but it takes you off this page so wait to click until you’re done reading. I guess I should have tried HTML coding so that it would open in a new tab but whatever. LOL Also, the pic is “green” because I have a string of green LED lights lining the porch and they’re on a daylight sensor. This was taken about 6:15 am and it’s still dark outside. I love the expression on Costume Cat’s face. 🤣🤣🤣

    1. Man Wizard is one great guy! He gets an extra cookie for buying you the perfect shirt. Our men do tend to know what we like.
    2. Very good idea holding off on the shelf. There is still quite a bit of work and decompressing to do.
    3. I hope the dog sitter is a good fit. My brother has a sitter that stays at their house. The dog, Smoke, is in love with her. He has no problem with them leaving😂.
    4. That’s a great deal on Maggie’s nails. I’m always surprised when animals allow the blow dryer. Maggie deserved her treat.
    5. Have a super time seeing Turbo and family. Special K will love the cupcakes.

1a. Got my hair done. Bad me fell asleep for a second while she was cutting my hair. She chalked it up to me being relaxed and that’s true. But I’m also exhausted.
2a. We closed out an annuity and I opened a currently empty account at hubs bank for the money. It has until Monday to get into the bank before I go crazy. The account closed on the 23rd and they have 5 business days to transfer the funds. I’m praying it gets there w/o a problem by Monday.
3a. Tomorrow is my massage and I can’t wait. My shoulder is a mess but so is my jaw from all the tension. Even my TMJ night guard is not helping.
4a. I am loving this oven. It takes longer to pre-heat and cools down for ever but the cooking is even. So far, everything has come out well.
5a. We’ve had a week of 70’s and tomorrow reality will strike and fall will return with 40’s and 50’s. It has ben nice and enjoyable.

Have a great weekend and tons of fun with Turbo.

PS. Cassie made Harrison a Bumble Bee Transformer costume for Halloween. If I can get a picture, I’ll DM it to you on Facebook.

Silver, thanks! I’m so happy Wizard found that shirt that I know I’ll wear again. I hate buying stuff I end up not wearing because I’m so picky.

    1) Man I tried!!! I tried to open that link on my phone safari browser, and my computers chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers but I kept getting a 404 error code. I also tried copy and paste in case the hyperlink itself was erroring out. I’m sorry :-( I really want to see costume cat! Now I’m wondering if it was a Hocus Pocus costume and the poor cat cast a spell to prevent us from seeing it!
    2) You have a way with the wild cat community!
    3) First, don’t you hate mornings like that? Cats are (generally) so much more finicky that dogs. These days, Maggie thinks dropping it on the floor adds flavor. I’m wondering if he ever ate his kibble? And yeah, Maggie would have done what Jake did and ate the cat food too!
    4) Yes we do love Kate! I haven’t seen her in years, but still love her for sure! Her book sounds delightful and fun. I instead choose a historical about WWII. But I should grab this one too!
    5) Wow that’s some wild temp changes! Mother Nature is always drunk lately. She really should consider AA meetings.

Have a great weekend watching sports, reading, enjoying coffee and writing! And I’m sorry I couldn’t make that link work. I have no idea why it would work for you and not me. Weird.

Viki, Yep, Wizard really did find a nice shirt. It’s true that both of us need time, Wizard especially has a lot to deal with. As for Maggie and the blow dryer, she wasn’t happy about it, but she trusts me to not hurt her. She has short hair and could easily get a burn.

    1) You really must be exhausted. But I do fall asleep when I sit down in the afternoon or evening. It’s frustrating.
    2) I know that stress of waiting for funds to transfer very well. It should go smoothly though. But we can’t help but worry until we see that transfer! Fingers crossed it’s there and recorded first think Monday!
    3) I hope the massage helps. I’m sorry the tension is creating so much pain. Sadly, though, I’m not surprised. Stress does that. I wish I had some solutions to help you.
    4) That is great news about your oven!
    5) Yay for enjoying the nice temps, and hopefully the colder temps won’t aggravate your shoulder and jaw pain.

Enjoy your massage and have a great weekend! And I loved the costume!! Cassie is so talented to make that! Also, Harrison sure is getting big.
