Reading and Stuff :-)

I’ve been really enjoying IRON WING, the second book in the The Empryean Series. However I’m almost finished and the third one isn’t out yet! I don’t even see it on preorder. I’m sad… and feeling bad for all the times I put readers through that wait, LOLOL.

I feel like I need to maybe read a non-fiction after this to clear my head. Especially with the complex worldbuilding the puts swirling questions in my head. A total change in reading often helps me to mentally file that book away until the third one comes out.

What are you all reading and liking? Do you sometimes find you have to change the type of book you’re reading to clear your head of the book you just finished?

Sorry for the short post, but I’ve mostly been baking and encountering more disappointing results than I’m used to. I’m trying to make too many things, with less than optimal energy and a finicky electric oven. It’s all kind of boring to continually hear about. But we are looking forward to seeing family.

And we’re looking forward to the new year. Last year had a lot of good in it, but a new year feels like clearing the decks a bit. The new year is full of possibilities and there’s a lot of things we’d like to do; some of it is work on the house, and other things are for fun.

So what are you reading? And how do you feel about closing out this year and beginning 2024?

Sounds like it’s time to to focus on just a few items that you know are tried and true and concentrate on them. Glad you are enjoying the books. I finished off the Linda Winstead Jones Mystic Springs trilogy. They are cozy paranormals and were fun. To change things up and to try to get out of my own rut of tried and true  I gave THE CURSE OF PENRYTH HALL a try. It’s a Gothic with romantic elements set in Cornwall England just after WWI. It was properly spooky and “gothicky” but I just never connected with the MC. She was a little too…jaded(?) for me. The narrator did an excellent job though. I’m currently listening to Mary Janice Davidson’s BEARS BEHAVING BADLY, paranormal romance. I don’t recall having read her before, again, trying to stay out of my rut of reread/relistens. It’s entertaining so far but not demanding so I can “put it away” when I need to work. Which I do. Need to work. I’m about half-way through with it and not sure what I’ll pick up next. I have 2 books left to “read” on my Goodreads challenge of 150 books. A week and a half should be long enough.

Good luck with the baking! I discovered that I need “gift” pans for the rolls and a couple more stocking stuffers that necessitates a run to Wallyworld. Today or tomorrow. We’ll see. Right now I’m just hoping the coffee kicks in. Happy Hump Day!

I just checked on IRON FLAME and according to Amazon it’s a two book series. I’m happy you’re enjoying the books but sad that it seems like it’s leaving you wanting more.

I just picked up Fourth Wing and hope to start it this weekend. I know, who am I kidding?

I love Henry Winkler and have his book, Being Henry : the Fonz … and beyond, on order from my library. Like you, I need to break things up now and then. I hope you find a book you enjoy.

I get it with the electric ovens. New technology is not always the best. I’m wishing you luck.

C told me not to do any baking because his C is baking us a bunch of stuff for Christmas. I’m good with that.

We’re going to have a Christmas brunch here. Not really knowing my appliances, my fingers are crossed all works out.

We all need to have a good 2024.

Sure hope your Wednesday is going well.

Silver, yes I should concentrate on fewer items! I just want to do it all :-)

That’s a variety of books you’re reading. I should look at Bears Behaving Badly, I haven’t read her in a while.

It’s imperative to have a book you can put down when you are on deadline (even if it’s you’re own deadline). I totally get that!

Thanks on the luck! Baking went fine yesterday, and I’m over the worry now anyway :-) Hope you can find the gift pans! I just wrap my breads in saran wrap then tie a ribbon and add it whatever I’m giving the cookies away in or on.

Sorry for being a day late, I ran out of steam after dinner and never got to the computer :-)

Hope you’re having a great Thursday!

Viki, I’m a day late answering, so sorry! But I’m here now until I vanish again into Baking Purgatory, LOL. Actually it’s going fine now, so that really is a joke.

If you do get started on FOURTH WING, let me know what you think.

I didn’t know Henry Winkler had a book out, hope you get it soon and enjoy it.

I miss my gas oven, but at least my stovetop burners are all gas. I’m very grateful for that. The oven I can work with in cooking pretty well too. It’s just occassionally weird for select items I bake.

That’s wonder for she’s baking for you!! It should take some pressure off you too. I hope you love all the treats!

I bet your bunch turns out delicious! But having new appliances do add a bit of stress. Each oven can be so different, and it takes time and experience to figure each one. But I’m confident everyone will be happy!

I agree on 2024! And I hope your Thursday (since I’m a day late answering) is going well!
