Holiday Hangover

We had a great Christmas, and I got a Kindle! I’ve only downloaded two books so far, and lots of sample chapters.

I also got a cold, a weird one. I had something all last week, kind of a sore throat and mild stuffiness. Then the day after Christmas, it exploded into a full-blown, miserable cold. My immune system apparently has been on vacation since about August.  I hope none of you are sick!

Wizard and I saw two movies; HOW DO YOU KNOW which I found boring. And LITTLE FOCKERS, which had some amusing parts but seemed a little slow. But I was pretty sick so that could have been me.

I read a couple books: I finished Eve Silver’s SINS OF THE HEART and really loved it.  Then I read Pamela Palmer’s RAPTURE UNTAMED. That one started out a bit slow for me, but once I caught onto her world (because of course, the book I read is  in the middle of the series) I liked it. After that I read Lynsay Sands HUNGRY FOR YOU.  People love, love, LOVE her. I’ve read a couple of her books now and don’t feel quite that level of passion :-)

Now don’t kill me, but I tried a Lee Child book GONE TOMORROW and gave up half way through. But I think that’s because I was getting sick, I was dead tired, and I got my new Kindle and wanted to play with it. I’ll go back and finish the book when I’m not distracted and I bet I enjoy it then. I generally like his writing.

On my Kindle, I read Shiloh Walker’s, BEG ME, an erotic novella with a not-for-everyone storyline. I was really curious about this book from a review I’d read on Smexy.  I read it straight through, found it enjoyable, but not quite as compelling as Smexy did.   Right now, I’m reading ROOM by Emma Donoghue. This book is really different, told from a five year old’s perspective, and so far, I’m very intrigued.

Wow, I’ve gone on enough! So how was your holiday? Seen any moives? Read any books?

I’ll be hit and miss this week, but will be back to regular posting next Tuesday at the latest.

What Are You Reading?

Actually, I want to go read now…I just barely started a book and love it so far. But I’ll talk more about that book in a minute.

First I read THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU by Elizabeth Berg.  This is not a romance, but a trade sized novel.  I didn’t care for it at first, but eventually got into it.  This is a totally different type of book than I normally read. It’s all centered around a 40 year high school reunion. I think the fact that I graduated high school a year early at 16 is part of my problem. I was never really a part of the high school culture. But it was interesting.

Now onto the next book. I’ve only read two chapters, but I’m hooked. It’s SINS OF THE HEART by Eve Silver. I met Eve a couple years ago at my agent’s cocktail party and really liked her.  I’ve read some of her other books, but I was really looking forward to this new series.   I always hold my breath a little bit when I start a book by someone I’ve met and liked–I want to love the book but that doesn’t always happen.  However, I’d say I’m well on my way to real love with SINS OF THE HEART!

Reading

I’m finally getting to read Kate Carlisle’s book THE LIES THAT BIND. I’m half way through it and really enjoying it! its the third book in the Bibliophile Mystery Series starring Brooklyn Wainwright. Brooklyn is funny and charming, and I just love this series.

And Huge Congratulations to Kate for hitting the New York Times Extended list with THE LIES THAT BIND and the first two books in the series!

Reading…I’m not…

I’ve been reading Lora Leigh’s STYX’S STORM and still haven’t finished it. It’s been forever.  I want to finish it but I’m spending more time trying to keep up with other stuff, or playing with Sadie, or trying to keep her out of trouble.

I’m getting pretty worn down physically. Not sure what that’s about.

So what about you all? Getting any good reading done?

Whatcha Reading?

Before I start, a reminder to  Linda Sienkiewicz that you won Laura Wright’s book ETERNAL HUNGER. Email me at Jenapodaca@aol.com with your mailing address!

I just finished ADAM by Ted Dekker. The book took a twist I wasn’t expecting, and for me, it’s just too dark of a place.

Before that I read HUNGER GAMES by Suzanne Collins, that was very good! I totally see why people are hooked on her series.

Next up, I think I’m going to read Lara Adrian’s TAKEN BY MIDNIGHT.

Monday Roundup!

I sent off my synopsis for a new Wing Slayer Hunter book to my agent on Friday,  so this weekend I was free of work. Well not free, I had “other” work but it was all easy enough. And I finally had time to read FAERIE FIRE by Silver James! This book surprised me. I was expecting more of a romance like the first book  FAERIE FATE, but this book was more of a suspense, I think. Always nice to be surprised!  Duncan and Moira must battle against both fate and terrorists to win a timeless love.  If you haven’t read it, you’re missing out!

I just started ETERNAL KISS OF DARKNESS by JEANIENE FROST.  I haven’t gotten very far, but as usual, she sucks me in from the very first page!

And just a reminder, tomorrow (October fifth) is the release date for the first book in an awesome new series ETERNAL HUNGER by Laura Wright. I’ve read portions of this book as she was writing it (Laura and I are critique partners) and I’m predicting this series is going to be a huge hit! I have been amazed at the evolution of the world she has built,  along with her fully developed, hot, sexy, and emotional characters!  I can’t wait to buy my copy and read it now that it’s all come together in the final polished product!

Tune in tomorrow for an episode of Lunch with Biker Witch.

How was your weekend?

Whatcha Reading?

From recommendations on my Facebook page, I went out and bought SIN UNDONE by Larissa Ione.

I loved it. My favorite scene is when Con shows Sin what real lovemaking is. That scene is so perfect, revealing the difference between sex and making love with some measure of caring.

Ione does an incredible job of stripping back the emotional layers of her characters until the are completely vulnerable and exposed–then putting them in situations that demand an impossible choice.

Right now, I’m reading WICKED BECOMES YOU by Meredith Duran.

What about you all? What are your reading? What’s your favorite scene?
